I did some welding too last night. . . .
The scary thing is, I really dont have any welding skills yet! But I could not wait, I had to strike a arc on my 69'er!!!! The PO had installed snaps all along my bed and tail gate for a cover. And senice my tail gate is junk any ways, it was time to pratice on that, before I start the bed sides. Not too shabby for someone who does not know what they are doing huh?

I want to learn to weld so bad, but everytime I check at the Community College, the courses are all filled up

Nice job there jason. What kind of welder are you using?
Welding is a great skill to know. My father in law is a boilermaker/welder and has taught me all that I know about welding. Which in comparison to some people, isn't much But as long as I'm willing to learn, he's willing to teach I was talking to Shawnas teenage cousin a while back and they are letting kids use plasma cutters, and gas mig welders in emtal shop now. When we were in school, we had to cut everything with a grinder and either DC stick weld or braze everything . Kinda wish I was back in high school now, just for metal shop

I started mig welding a couple of years ago. Unless your welding submarines or bridges it's pretty easy to become proficiant enough to work on car related projects

Looks good, one recommendation though, get yourself a better place for the ground. The pic you posted showed the ground clamp in the middle of a painted area. Poor grounding will give you fits.

Not too shabby at all My little bro is going to loan me his gear so I can weld and metal fill some body work. It's been years so I'll keep my fingers crossed.....just not while welding or brazing...

I also have the SP135 and I really like it. I had a bad experience
with a wire fed welder(no gas) before I got my 135. However, the addition of the gas really makes welding almost easy. On sheetmetal, however, I had to learn a lot of patience and be careful not to over heat(warp) the metal. Although, the sheetmetal on the original tailgates seems to be thicker than other parts of the truck. Jim Mt Juliet |

looks good....wire feed is nice, once you get it dailed in for what you are doing its pretty straight forward, i think people are intimidated by it, i was at one time but i got my ticket and now weld and fabricated full time at a shop and think its awesome, i actually like getting up in the morning and going to work!

Take some scrap sheet metal and practice but and lap welding I have an sp-135 just like yours slow wire feed lower voltage and stitch your long welds, it lets your metal cool and avoid warping,and try differant wire speed and voltages and before long you will be a good welder. Good Luck EMMETT

Probably the best thing I ever did for my car hobby (addiction). I took a community ed class on welding then bought a good welder.
