New Clutch Suggestions

OK Guys here;s a question. After talking with Phoenix on this board I have determined its time to replace the cluth on my 76 GMC K15 4X4. I am re gasketing the motor and the engine is out. The flywheel has sme heat marks and isnt perfectly smooth. Phoenix is replacing his with a Zoom clutch. It looks really good to me except the price. I am looking for all opinions on clutchs. I dont want to spend a fortune but I dont want cheap Kragen crap either. Any suggestions or stories on what you have done would be great.

I can definitely recommend Zoom Clutches. I have used them exclusively on all my vehicles. The one in the 81 4x4 I sold was 4 years old and showed no signs of slipping. The one in my project truck with a 454 and 4 speed (2wd) had 7 years of abuse on it and still looked good. I might still have it at home.

Thanks for the reply. I am leaning that way but just saw that clutch on e-bay and was wondering about that one too. I think I will go all the way I dont want to have to change it again so I may as well do it now while the motor is out.

When I decided to get away from the cheap clutch sets I looked all around. The zoom is lower priced compared to a lot of the "performance" clutches.
I bought the Zoom MF-5505-1
Why dont you check around local for "Luk" replacement clutches. You can save yourself some money and they are supposed to be equal to original. All of them say equal to original but I dont know how true that is. Like I said in the other post a few local clutch guys like the Luk clutch sets best. On the Zoom pressure plate you can clearly read "Luk" stamped on it in 4 places. The disc and bearing with the zoom kit dont say anything about "Luk" but the disc says clutchex (?), something like that.
I still dont understand why the dealer clutch kit is $400. Anyway Luk from what I hear is a leading clutch manufacturer and manufactures clutches for many other companies including zoom and centerforce.

This Luk website has sone great info. I have determined that 12" clutch discs are in fact 11-3/4" (or sometimes 11-7/8") and 11" clutch discs are 10-15/16".
