Help me decide to buy, or not

Ok I think this is a smokin deal but I really really dont need this thing. I have a friend with an '84 (I think) 1 ton with 454 that he will let go for $700. The truck is a 3 spd + granny gear the motor has about 70-80k mi on it and runs great. The body and interior are pretty well shot but I figured I could take the zz4 out of my truck and rebuild the 454 and take the axles and put them in the blazer. For $700 is it worth the money?

454's really don't like RPM. You might actually be happier with the zz4 and that 3.73.

My 88 burb with 3.73 and 31 inch tall tires is not happy at 70 but I don't have OD. Now It will pull like a MF all day at 63mph (2500rpm) and be happy about it. Might get away with it since you have OD but I can tell you one thing...that 700 isn't long for the world behind a 454.

That 465 would probably get a easy $200. It's going to be a fixed yoke I bet.

I say keep enjoying your ZZ4. I dont think you'd care for the extra weight of the big block.

if i could have afforded it, i would have built a nice big block if my dad would ever consider it, i would trade him engines and take his mostly stock 427. man, i would spend tons of money on it, but it would be SUPER fast

no offense or anything man, but are you F@##% nuts! why is that thing not in your driveway yet? 454, 465, probably a 205, 14FF, and a D60. that's a K5ers wet dream right there! i paid $800 for my 60, a 465/205, and a clutch setup. the rest of the truck was wasted, so it will be going to scrap. if you havent spoken for it already, do so soon!

buy it. thats a hell of a deal, the axles alone are well worth the 700, plus a good running 454 tranny and transfer case? i would be all over it!

I figured it was a pretty good deal but there are some things that I have to take care of first. I need a place to put this ugly truck and then find the time and someone to help swap everthing in the K5. The HOA out here would have a fit and I'm already on theyre $Hi# list. Everything should pretty much bolt into the K5 with the exception of having to get some new drive shafts right? The Blazer is just a DD so I really dont need 1 ton axles but once I get my 35"s I'll need to regear anyway so I figure it might be worth it.

Buy it, and put a car cover on it or somethin...

That deal is simply too good to pass up, you'd get the money back just for sellin that D60!

Go for it, thats a helluva deal....and besides, depending on the gear ratio in that front pumpkin, I might be willing to work somethin out with you for trades, cause I will be needing a new front axle to deal with my tire size, and if you are running 35's my axle would suit your needs!

But yeah, jump on it for sure!!

I'd take it and just rebuild the 454 for that truck. Keep the ZZ4 in your truck.

holy crap...that would be a steal if it was a 2wd...and its a 4wd???

even if you dont want to swap the stuff over, buy the truck, part it out, and make yourself a couple grand.

Oh man I just thought of something.... When I buy this I cant tell the G/F about it, that would mean I would have my '01 explorer, '83 K5, '85c10, a 1 ton 4wd, and my new '02 yamaha v star. I think she will kick my a$$ if she found out, hhmmm I hope she doesnt find out ha ha

Ok the guy called me back and changed his mind, now he wants $1k and wont budge on the price. Still sounds like I will do it but I'm a little hesitant to try and part out a vehicle at my house.

How big of a deal is it to switch the blazer to the 1 ton stuff?
