HELP: 1983 1-Ton wiring
This is not for my truck. This is for a friends truck. I have not seen this truck in person only going off what I have been told.
1983 1-Ton 2wd w/ manual trans. 350 gas engine w/ 4BBL carb Does have a.i.r. system (smog) Does NOT have cats Vin# 1GBHC34M8DVXXXXXX There is a device (looks like relay) mounted on center of the drivers side valve cover. This device has 5-wires going to it and has 4-terminals on it. So two of the wires share a terminal. The plug fell apart and caused all kinds of problems. Truck wouldnt run, gauges dont work right (alt, temp, and oil) etc. Need to figure out what this device is and a wiring diagram to go with it. Device is approx. 2" x 2" and it is metal. It has a tab coming off with one hole for mounting. Two wires come from this device and go to a solenoid on front of the intake manifold. The wires going to this solenoid from the device are brown and yellow. What is this device mounted on the drivers valve cover and can someone give me a wiring diagram for it. Thanks.

I have one of those on my truck, but for me it controls my carb kickdown...
I've never traced all the wires, but I do know that one is to the tach port on the HEI, one is ground, and one is power... I can unplug mine and let it sit there with no negative effects on my engine's operation...

Thanks for the reply Russel.
Does the thing you have match all the descriptions I listed above? We are trying to figure out what this thing is. If we can get the name of it or what its for we can probably find the wiring diagram. Someone with a 1983 1-ton wiring diagram please look in your book and help us out. thanks.

Russell you were talking about the same thing.
For anyone else who find this later: Throttle Return Control (TRC) System ------------------------------------------------ The solenoid vacuum control valve bolts to the front of the intake manifold (usually on one of the termostat housing bolts). This solenoid is pretty much a vacuum switch that is opened and closed using electrical signal from the engine speed switch. This has (2) wires: #1 goes to the engine speed switch (port D). #2 goes to 12v+ or port A on engine speed switch. This also has (2) vacuum lines: #1 (on back of canister) goes to manifold vacuum (full manifold vacuum) #2 (on side of canister) goes to the throttle lever actuator mount on the carburetor. ------------------------------------------------ The engine speed switch mounts on the drivers side valve cover. It has 4-wires: A - Pnk/blk (to +12v) B - Wht (to tach term.) C - Blk (to Ground) D - Yel (to solenoid vacuum control valve) ------------------------------------------------ The throttle lever actuator mounts on the carb and has a plunger that can actuate the throttle lever. This has one vacuum line that comes from the solenoid vacuum control valve. When decelerating the engine speed switch activates the solenoid vacuum control valve which allows vacuum to the throttle lever actuator which applies slight throttle to maintain the optimum efficient air/fuel ratio. ------------------------------------------------
