Painted my garage Floor

I used the Rustoleum Epoxy Shield Kit with the colored chips sprinkled on top. Turned out really nice. My 15x32 garage used 2 kits. Here is a before and after pic. I'm going to paint the trim blue to match the plastic chips. I told my wife she started something when she made me the Flamed curtains for the garage door!. Next will be TV, stereo and fridge to keep the beer cold,LOL.

Nice job, is there anything that can be added to the mixture to make it nonskid?

The next thing is to find out how well it holds up to any abuse, floor jack or a car stand. My company has the whole Power Block (turbine building) floors coated with an epoxy type material, and we have to put mats or blocks down so that the floor doesn't suffer to heavy weights and metal edges chipping the floor. (I work at a nuclear Power plant, the Turbine building is really big and has five floors- all coated.

Thanks guys!. GMNUT I have seen an additive at Home Depot that could be added to any paint. The chips offer almost no skid protection. There just for looks. I probably should have added anti skid additive around the perimeter of the truck and kept it smooth underneath for the creeper and to wipe up leaks. Oh well, when this floor gets messed up I already told the wife I'm doing the black and white checker board like Randy's!

Piecesparts,... you must work at Wolf Creek. I work at Callaway in Missouri. (Sorry forthe hijack) We have the same problem. Floor gets damaged easy. Cleans up nice,... but chips and scratches easy. Our paint is like $135.00 per gallon kit, plus a clear topcoat. Maybe for home use, it wouldn't see as much traffic. 70c10,... it still looks Great.

That looks beautiful. I painted mine a long time ago, it looked good and held up good for quite a while, but it's mostly gone now. Problem is I have so much junk now, I don't think I'll ever have a nice clean floor like that again.

Black and white tile is nice, but I think that speckled gray looks a lot cleaner.

One thought on the non slip, maybe a couple runner rug/mats around the walking/working areas.

Non skid additive, which is just like a sand, can be bought at a marine supply, probably also from a truck/equipment supply, place.

Man that looks so clean. Was your concrete smooth? I tried to get them to buff my concrete, but they wouldn't do it. It has a texture to it, so I don't know how well the paint will lay down when I get that far...

The nicest floor I've ever seen was at a brand new machining facility that made medical parts. There floor was cement but was diamond cut with some machine that made it very smooth and very shiny.

Larry, those kits here cost around $55. I used it in our parts room at my shop. It's fairly easy to do, the trick is to get the paint chips evenly spread.

LB, I paid $38 per kit with my buddy's discount at Autozone. I think Target sells it for about $50 per kit which does 250 square feet.

N2TRUX, my concrete was trowled very smooth.

Jason your right about the shoes.

Randy's right about sprinkling it but it's pretty easy to keep it uniform.

This system is getting more and more popular in new construction in locker rooms, kitchens and pool decks. In industry, there are texture chips and color chips. With several coats of clear over the top, it mellows out the texture so it's smooth enough to sweep or mop. As far as the concrete goes, the guys who do this for a living use a 'shot-blaster' to remove any exsisting texture and to prepare the surface for the new material. This shot blaster is kind of like a sand blaster on steriods, using steel shot to rough up the slab. This tool should be availible at tool rental places, and it is easy to use. It's not much bigger than a vaccum cleaner, and it blasts and sucks up the shot and just keeps recirculating it. After, just go over the slab with a magnet to get any remaining shot and your ready.

P.S.-That floor looks really good, very professional. I considered going with a system like this, but in the end I went with a hardener/sealer since I could get it for free at my work.
