Are The Pre-electronic Q'jets Better than The Earlier Ones?
I am thinking of putting a 1980 Q'jet from a 454 on my '72 402. Aside from adding a wire for the choke will this work well? Are these the 800 CFM units?

Yes it should work fine. No, it's not the 800 cfm unit. These came on the big inch caddies and such. It will be 750 cfm.

I just won one on Ebay for 25-bones and I figure it is worth tinkering with. What mods should I make to this (if any) to enhance the performance? I am running a stock 402 with a mild cam, intake and dual exhausts.
Thanx for the help! Last edited by 69sixpackbee; 06-07-2004 at 07:47 PM. |

As long as you have adjustment with the idle mixture screws, you will probably be OK with the idle discharge ports. Best mods will be the secondary hanger and rods, along with the AV spring and damper. Believe me, a properly tuned Q-jet will put a big smile on you face when you stomp it.
