Question for the Lifted 2wd guys
I'm just wondering how big of lift coil i can go before i need different a-arms
I've heard 2" and I've heard 3" but not from anybody with experience. And is it possible to get a camber adjustment block or something if i do decide to go with the 3"?

as with lowering, if you do extreme 2-3" it will cause ill effects, on tire wear and alignment. unfortunately nobody makes a lift spindle at this time for anything pre 88. you could make a cross member to lower the A-arms to counter act the longer coils and still provide lift. you could just add a body lift to avoid tire problems. i believe they make ball joint spacers to try and counter act the tires wear and alignment problems but i havent heard they are the miracle fix.. most still have problems. what size tires are you wanting to run, what are you wanting to do with this truck?

I was hoping to get up to a 33x12.5 on there with maybe some minor trimming. I dont' do any serious off roadin with the truck its mostly just fire roads and camping trips. And at stock height I've never had my 31x10.5's rub so i don't think tire clearance will be a problem. I was just more concerned about gettin mileage out of a new set of tires.
And I did actually find some lift spindles for the 73-87's but they were on AIM's website so i dunno if I'd want to use them. I've heard mixed reviews about their products, and i think you need to go to atleast a 16" rim to clear them anyway.

i will have to check AIMs sight again, they had the 73-87s lift spindles previously but quit making them due to low demand. i have an 82 2wd with stock rear and just HD coils on the front. i run 32x11.50s right now, and have a slight rub on hard bumps, but if all you are wanting to run is 33"s i would say you will have to trim the front and rear of the front fenders and roll the top fender edge up quite a bit, and they should fit with no problem in the rear. i might have access to some 35"s that i might bolt on and just start trimming....
i assume you are looking to do this on your 68, so the fender clearances will more than likely be different, though i am sure 33"s should still fit in the back as my buddy had a 70 2wd with 33"s on the rear.. Last edited by Prerunner1982; 06-10-2004 at 11:40 PM. |

Looks like Aim doesn't have em anymore, called em today. I'm throwin a 78 front crossmember in the 68 that is why I came to ask you guys, and my rear end is already 3 inches higher, so if i do the axle over it'll be up 6 inches higher than the front, I like a rake, but thats just excessive. I'd really rather not do any trimming, so i guess i'm gonna have to throw the two inch coils in and wait to get everythign installed then take some measurements for the tires.
Thanks for the help anyway
