New Member From Australia!

Hi Guys,

I have recently joined the forum and the Truck community.

I am from Queensland Australia and there aren't too many nice pickups over here.

I previously had a nice 55 shortbox.

My latest ride is a 68 shortbox which I can't claim the responsibility of doing as I bought it pretty much as you see it.

It did and still does have quite a bit of sorting to do but as I have recently sold the last of a long line of resto's I decided to treat myself to one that was "done".

It broke down on me yesterday on the way to a major event so I was ready to burn it then but I've calmed down now.

So here's a pic of it and I hope to participate on the forum as much as possible.

Mark.

G'Day Mate! and welcome aboard. Is your fleetside a '67 or a '68? It looks like the US '67 model year because of the lack of fender side marker reflectors, and no nose trim on leading edges of fenders and hood ("bonnet"). But that could be an export model. I've seen pix of Mexican '72s that had no side markers either. Is it possible to find Right-Hand drive components in down-under junkyards? Yours looks like US -style left-hand drive from the pic (unless it's flipped).

Thanks for the welcomes and compliments, It's good to see that this forum is very active with friendly people.

I'll answer all of the questions in this post.

The truck is Left Hand Drive as we can licence them left hook provided that they are 30 years old or older.

We haven't had chev trucks available in Aus since the 40's so all are imported privately.

Mine only landed a few weeks ago and was a California truck.

I am on the Gold Coast which is on the East Coast in Queensland.

It is a 68 but has had all trim, marker lights, badges and door handles removed.

There would be no use even trying to find anything localy as the wrecking yards wouldn't even know what a 68 chev looked like.

There are specialist importers but usualy they just order the parts from the US and then charge a huge markup.

I have restored several US cars and a bunch of harleys and have imported virtualy all of the parts myself.

Yes, as hard to believe as it is we are in Winter and that pic was taken last weekend and I am sitting at the puter with a t-Shirt and track pants so as you could have guessed we have real mild winters.

It's rare to get below 5 deg C. but it does hapen but usualy only at night.

Thanks again for the welcome, Mark.

Howdy from soggy western Washington. Did you travel to California to inspect the truck or just hope for the best? Pretty ballsy to spend what that nice truck must have cost without driving it first.

This is a great board. We have members from England and I think Edmund is from Denmark (sorry if I'm wrong). It's nice to listen to you guys gripe about getting parts for a change. I've had a few British sports cars. Always had to get my parts mail order from UK or through Canada, eh.

Thanks again for the welcomes,

I bought the truck from a local importer. He had a real nice 71 that I was interested in but he liked it too much thus had a very high asking price but then told me of this one. He showed me some pics but I resisted until it landed.

I took it for a test drive with my wife and she pretty much decided that I should buy it, so there you have it.

She loves trucks and although I have restored some great cars (my last one was a 59 Vette which I sold earlier in the year) the only ones that she has really been interested was the 55 pickup and this 68, neither of which I restored. (figures)!

By the way, here are a few details about the 68,

She's got a 350 which origin I haven't identified yet, Holley DP, Highrise edelbrock, HEI dissy, blockhuggers,a TH400, posi rear, disc frontend, powersteer, vintage air using original vents and controls. billet dash cluster, handles and winders, Flaming rivers tilt column and as seen in the pic 17" TT 2's with big rubber.

The hood looks to be aftermarket and isn't too straight so I will be looking into replacing it down the track.

It has needed a few things sorted before I could licence it but they are done and it is fully licenced, there are a few more that I will get to in the near future.

And for those interested here is a pic of my 55 now residing on the other side of the country.

It had a 350 tuned port and T700 grafted from an 89 camaro, 9" rear, Jag suspension and steering. I had a lot of trouble with cold starting and I was using it as a daily driver which was not too practical and the 10 min warmups at 5am was really getting the neighbours offside so I sold her awhile back.

Mark.
