The easiest way is to check for a tag/sticker on the glove box door or drivers door jam. The harder way is to pull the pumpkin cover and count the teeth on the ring gear and pinion gear and divide accordingly. You could count drive shaft revolutions to wheel revolutions for a ball park guesstimate.

I remembered that when I put the LSD in my S10, stamped on the ring gear was a ratio. I dont remember what it was, but I just checked the '78 today and it was stamped on it too. Just take off the cover and rotate it around untill you see the numbers. There is a part number on it, GM and a ratio. Mine said 14:43. If you do the math that comes out to 3.071428....... or simply 3.08:1. Much easier than trying to count the teeth, b/c its really hard to see the pinoin gear without taking the carrier out. Then all you need is a gasket and 2 qts of fluid.
