Hypertech detonation
Anyone out there have detonation probs W/ the Hypertech power programmer? It's a 97 w/ a 350 & 35"s. I just changed my 180 thermo for a 160 and it helped quite a bit but not completely. I also run 92 octane, sometimes w/ octane booster. EGR valve maybe? I haven't checked the timing yet. Thanks in advance.

I was having problems with my stock Vortec detonating. When I pulled the plugs I found 3 and 5 were so coated I could barely see the electrodes. Arrgh! The dreaded intake manifold gasket thing. Are you using any oil? That was my first sign. Michael

It hasn't used any oil, but it's still due for a plug change.

I have a hypertech power programmer for my 98 350. I have no detonation problems. Hypertech actually calls for 93 octane in the manual that came with my programmer. If you are having problems, then I would give it a tuneup, check the EGR and run a good combustion chamber cleaner (schaeffer's nuetra, Fuel power, Chevron Techron, etc).
