Question Spark plug boots: 90 degree or straight

I am going to buy a new set of plug wires and am trying to decide which boot style to get. I have a 68 SBC (the one in my signature line) with ram horn exhaust and it looks like straight boots would clear nicely. I will be using Morosco wire looms that bolt to the valve covers. Any pros or cons for the styles?

I perfer to use the wire's for a 75 corvette as they are really long and have straight boot's...

Yup, those are the ones to get if you have an HEI and rams horns. Here is a pic of them routed in the stock fashion.

routed under , as in CPNE's pic is IMO much cleaner than over the top....a little more work to set up, but I ran the last couple with rams horns that way CPNE, is that edelbrock carb a "stock resto" item.....you are slippin dude! just "razzin" like always crazyL

The only thing I've ever "fabricated" is the myth that I actually believe anything other than stock is wrong.

Please note however, the engine is in the "correct" V8 position and my stock clutch linkage works very well. :p

those boots dont look straight in the pics... Did you get the 75 Vet boots and bend them yourself?

Around here 75 Vettes have 90 degree boots, or at least NAPA says so. Regardless, the key here is the length which allows for routing behind the block and under the manifolds. I don't think the boot really makes one bit of difference in this application. If they had to come over the top of the exhaust manifold, then obviously straight boots would be the way to go.

If you don't have HEI, then wires for the stock 67-72 SBC points ignition should work too, as they were designed to route in the same fashion. The 75 vette thing comes into play when you upgrade to HEI andwant to keep same routing as a 75 vette had HEI and ustilzed rams horn manifolds.

if you think the stock clutch linkage works good.....you should try that "redesigned" linkage on my longhorn :p crazyL

If you're gonna run headers, go with straight boots. Right now I have an HEI with straight boots on mine with stock exhaust manifolds, but I ordered a set of headers so I'm all set for 'em.

most times the header tubes are in the way of using straight boots you will probably cook those straight boots and never be able to route your wires when you put the headers on you will see what im talkin about

Here's a set of Accel's generic V8 HEI wires(straight boots)
I run 2.5" Corvette rams.
