Unhappy edelbrock carb and stock manifold ?

im putting an edelbrock carb on my 72 /350. the guy at the parts store got the carb for me and i asked for the adapter plate for my truck. he grabbed one, an open one. that is, on with one big hole.

i didnt think much about it, i came home and put everything on. im short a few little things before i fire it up so.. lol, now i decide to look at the instructions.

i read here that for gm products with qjets, it says not to use the open adapeter. i guess i need the one with the 4 holes in it. %(#$# every thing is on now, i hate to have to rip it back apart.

did the parts guy screw up? am i reading this wrong? do i need to go get the right adapter?

How does it run, I have used open adapters without any issues. You did put gaskets on both sides of the adapter? and all hoses hooked up properly?

Way back before the performer and and rpm manifold there was the stock gm Hirise Z28 manifold and one of the mods to the manifold wass to grind out some of the divider wall 1" down and 1" in from the sides. this increased your rpm band 100 - 200rpm, the same thing applies to adding a spacer between the carb and manifold, so instead of calling it an adapter call it a spacer, problem solved..

I agree, crank it up & see how she runs......an open spacer is a "mixed bag" of chit.....sometimes they work, & sometimes they dont best of luck & let us know how it goes.....crazyL

The power building articles in Chevy High Performance, say that the spacer with 4 holes will give a better flow pattern and power band than the open hole. The four hole unit helps align the flow from the carb to the manifold and eliminates the perturbation that happens just below the carb mounting plate. The turbulence created there will hurt low end performance and cause the engine to run irregular in a off-idle to mid-throttle acceleration.
