Oil pressure gauge
is there a difference between inline 6 and 350 oil pressure gauges? My oil pressure gauge is reads high all the time it's running.

Should be be the same Tim. Maybe you just have a high output pump. Mine usually runs about 60 lbs at start up, drops to 30 or so when the temp is up and engine is at idle.

Wonder if I should get a newer gauge, one that has PSI numbers on it rather than just the L______H reading on it. But as far as i Have noticed,it runs at H all the time. Mind you, I haven't run it much yet.

You could use a spare gauge, just fit it to the engine, under the hood, and verify what pressure you are running. Just a way to check it quickly to be safe. I had the opposite problem with low pressure, checked it that way, and found the gauge was right. I wound up rebuilding the engine.

As I recall the gauge is split into quarters. The stock gauge is a 60 psi unit so each quarter is about 15 psi. If you put in a high volume pump it will run pegged or nearly so most of the time. An 80 psi gauge from a bigger truck is a little better range for a high volume pump and is a straight bolt in.

Yeah it's a high volume pump. I'll have to make sure I pick up a different gauge. Oh and this engine is freshly rebuilt

i was told the factory oil pressure guage doesnt read to accurate anyways.Someone on here was saying that theirs was reading like NO pressure when it really had some.That is what mine reads when idling,no pressure,but seems to run great

I hope you have a deeper than stock pan, or at least a trap door in the oil pan. I've heard bad things about high volume pumps sucking oil pans dry..... Since you have a high volume pump, that's why your gauge is pegged all the time. My old 350 was the same way, it had massive oil pressure when it was first started, the gauge wouldn't move down until the engine was completely warm (5 mile drive).

 TIM -- DON'T WORRY ABOUT TOO MUCH OIL PRESSURE. THATS A PROBLEM ALOT OF PEOPLE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE. THIS OLD TALE ABOUT SUCKING YOUR PAN DRY IS B/S. YOU MIGHT SUCK IT DRY IF YOU RAN SUPER HIGH RPMs FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME ( LIKE 7500 OR 8000 RPMs) BUT AS LONG AS ALL YOUR OIL RETURN HOLES & GALLYS ARE CLEAR YOU WONT HAVE A PROBLEM. I'VE REBUILT A BUNCH OF MOTORS & PUT MELLING HIGH VOLUME PUMPS IN ALL OF THEM. (NOT JUST WHAT I'VE HEARD) I LIKE OVERSIZE OIL PANS THOUGH WHEN I CAN FIT THEM IN MY PARTICULAR APPLCATION. THE MORE OIL I CAN GET THE BETTER. FOR EVERYDAY DRIVING..... A STOCK PANM IS JUST FINE. RELAX ... AFTER YOU DRIVE IT FOR A WHILE THE PRESSURE WILL COME DOWN. MOST OF THE MOTORS I REBUILD REGULARY PEG THE STOCK PRESSURE GAGE & BLOW A LITTLE OIL OUT THE BREATHER IN THE VALVE COVER. JOHNSHAWNA -- DON'T WORRY ABOUT PULLING THE INST. PANEL. GET TIM TO PUT AN $12 100 P.S.I. GAGE UNDER THE HOOD. :p
