rearend question
im looking for a new(used) rear for 71 4x4 half ton. the one in there now isnt stock. has cobbled on spring pads and shock mounts...the drive shaft mounts to the rear with flat saddles over the u joints with bolts threaded into yoke(i think its called yoke)...not sure if this is stock or not. when i got the truck it had no driveshaft and i had one built for it to fit this rear...ok the questions are is this the way stock was mounted? one of the board members says he has a rear end out of a 69 or 70...is this a direct bolt in? im thinking it probably is long as it was leaf mounted rear....any input would be appreciated

The 69-70 4x4 rear ends are a direct bolt in. The two wheel drive leaf spring rear ends are not a direct bolt in. The 69 and some 70 rear ends are 1 1/2" narrower than the 71-72 rear ends.

I'm looking for a '72 4x2 half ton leaf spring rearend myself, so is my following understanding correct?
'69-'72 4x4 rearends interchange '69-'70 4x2 rearends interchange '71-'72 4x2 rearends interchange Please correct me if I'm wrong. Are '69-'72 4x4 and '71-'72 4x2 the same? Was the 12-bolt rearend not out yet in '67-'68 or why wouldn't they work? |

badpeanut, the 4x4 rear spring spacing is different from the 2wd leaf sprung rears spring spacing.

I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm
