WOW, Nice ride, and a very nice Two Tone, I had the same design picked out in cream and black but I let the body man talk me into just solid black.
Just seeing a finished 5 window gives me incentive!!!!! Keep up the good work

O K how about a close up of the tail gate latch. I cut off the hook and eye to smoth out the tail gate, now I need to secure it in the up position. I have some marine anti rattle latches out of S/S that I was going to use. I have seen some barrel latches that slide into the roll on the tailgate, but still looking!!

CONGRATS on the NSRA Pick, bro'! You sure deserve that one, too!
Hey -- in the top pic, the one color looks real BLUE ... in the others, it looks more GREEN or TEAL ... which is it? solidaxel -- Check out what the PO did with my tailgate ... nice treatment: Last edited by horvath; 07-28-2004 at 10:50 PM. |

LOL!!! funny that you guys should ask about the latches.... I actually used a seat belt latch system before... now its an aftermarket system plunger style, will take some pics tomarrow and post them for you guys.... and as far as the color goes.... its actually a blue with a green pearl in it!! the pewter is a custom mix with a small amount of white pearl in that with the dividing stripe a dark midnite blue from an olds silouete van .......... Thanks Alan and Marty, I think I can wait another day...............
Marty, did you move your rear end to the rear 1" +/- and what size rubber is on the rear, and wheel size. Alan. I can't use that type as I shaved and filled the tailgate and bed sides. Thanks

Hey solid.... 255/60/15 on 8" Billet Centerlines rear and 15x7 on the front running 205's as far as the rear goes im running monoleaf springs in the rear.... from the 72 SS Nova donor car frt and rear so when I mounted everything it was measured and placed in the center of the wells... as far as when I built the 48 for my dad goes I actually took the original springs on the rear.... turned them around! which moved the rear back 1".... yes I did it and yes it works fine... some say your not supposed to do it but when the eyelets measure the same and there really isnt a true front or back denoted on the springs..... why not! besides it looked better to have the tire centered then more forward in the fenders... I think it was truly a gm error or was a way to help with the mud buildup to the rear of the fenders..... one may never know... but here is some more pics for the latches....and extras...enjoy!!

Thanks Marty,
The latches look like Pro-pick,are they? I was wondering if they were not tied down that the bed would move from uneven road and the tailgate would make contact with the bed sides and rattle or rub the paint, have you had that problem? I checked my 55 1st. and the center bolt in the rear spring is equal at 26 1/2" so that is not a option for me. I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and order a Fat Bar 4-bar from NLE !! You stated that the your rear springs were stock Nova Mono springs? I see a couple of the vendors list them for our trucks, do you know of anybody using a aftermarket mono (plastic) spring?

Well as far as the latches are concerned... they are the Pro-Pick latches I have the straps on them now they work great!! because of the "slop" in the tailgate... I have put custom fit washers on the inside of the tailgate..(where the tailgate and the hinge are) to tighten up the tolerance to keep the tailgate from hitting the bedsides. As far as the springs are concerned there are companies making fiberglass rear mono springs but would prob recomend the spring kit from RB's fabrication they carry alot of products to fit the late 47 to early 54 chev pickups.... course I was able to pick up a few things when they were in pueblo for the Rocky Mountain Street Rod Nats.....
