Which Manual
I'm restoring a 72K5 Blazer, and I'd like to get a manual to make the process go a little smoother. Which is best: 67-72 Factory Assemby Manual or a 72 service manual. Any input would be appreciated, and yes this post is due to Rick's board members specials page.

I have a service manual for my 71 pickup and I love it. Neither are that spendy, buy them both, they don't have to save you much work/frustration to pay for themselves.

So it is worth it to buy both. What are the differences in the two?

The difference between the 67-72 manual and the 72 service manual is that the 67-72 covers all models and the 72 is model specific with more detailed stuff. I'd go ahead with both. I've got a 1970 chassis service manual and a 1970 chassis overhaul manual and they tell me everything I ever wanted to know about my truck. Mine covers series 10-60, 1/2 ton up to 2 ton trucks!

When/if you buy the 67-72 Factory Assembly Manual (1,000 pgs.+) ask the vendor on the printing quality! I've heard the printing is really light on some of them and are hard to read/see. Don't know if they were tight on the ink or they had printing press problems. Best of luck with your new project, Doug

Both are good but you will spend more time looking through the assembly manual, it is very interesting.

the assembly manual is a bunch of illustrations that shows how the truck is assembleb , where the wires run proper routing of lines and hoses how things are located and pievces required for proper assembly
the service manuals show how to repair and service the components of the truck buy all of them they're cheap with loads of info

The reason that the Assembly Manual gets a bad rap is because it is a compendium of copies of copies that the assembly line folks used. So, it stands to reason that the factory didn't intend for them to leave the factory in the first place and the quality of the "original" that was used to create the manual, wasn't that consistent. Still, it is an interesting book. You have to look at all of the book to find the part that you are seeking. The dated pages, i.e., 1969, deal more with the Blazer, since it was new in '69.

I'd say grab a copy of the overhaul manual also.
