I didn't get any better mileage on my 85, but I did notice a slight power increase - probably because the old paper one was so dirty. Fuel injected engines should get a better boost of power and mileage than carburated vehicles.

I used an Airaid setup with the K&N filter on my '96 Z-71 and noticed a little more power from a dead stop, but only noticed the slightest increase in mileage. But I was running 37's with 4.56 gears. I even tied the Poweraid spacer. I took that thing back out in a hurry. It whistled on the interstate and made the mileage worse. I gave it to my dad in Arkansas and he has it in his stock 2 wheel drive truck with the same 5.7L and he swears by it. Great mileage difference for him. Oh, after removing it, my mileage returned to normal (if 10mpg is normal).

I have a FIPK on my 99 5.7L. I had the same thing on a 97 5.7L and it got great mileage.

I use a K&N replacement filter and leave the lid off the airbox. This made a bit of difference in mileage. One thing to make sure you do with a stock replacement K&N is get a piece of exhaust tubing(about 1" long) and insert it into the air tube where the hose clamp for the K&N fastens. If you don't, over time the air tube will collapse, and you will suck dirt into the engine. Don't waste your money on a cold air intake for a 5.0/5.7 Vortec, leaving the air box lid off with the replacement K&N does the exact same thing. I found the biggest mileage gain came after I installed Edelbrock Headers, and Flowmaster Exhaust. I also have a spacer, and I think it's decent, but I agree with Putter, They tend to whistle(especially while towing). The newer ones are made a little different and aren't supposed to whistle as much. Also added a complete MSD ignition which helped as well and although it suprised me, the cowl induction hood seemed to help as well. Maybe only because it dropped engine tempurature a bit. Only thing that dropped mileage was a programmer

Has anyone used filters other than K&N? Just wondering if there is much difference between the brands.

I bought the k&n right before I had flowmaster duals put on and I get great mileage, actually a lil better than the dodge v6 I used to have I get around 16 to 20 sometimes more sometimes less depends if I want to chomp on it a lil, I will have to try and take the airbox cover off makes sense more air getting to it.

Thumbs up Kn

I was just talking with my boyfriend regarding the KN air filters - I think I will give it a try to help with the gas mileage (97 Z71 5.7L). EEEKSS the prices are crazy for gas so anything I can do to help is a plus. I purchased for him the KN Fuel Injection performance kit for his Jeep and he picked at least 2 miles per gallon with it. Its worth the bucks !!!

You might also check into an aftermarket reprogramming chip. I installed a stage 2 "Fast Chip" with a K&N re-usable A/F element and picked up about 4 MPG overall plus a very noticeable HP increase.

Hey, I have a K & N filter for sale. It came off my 97 1500 w/350. I cleaned it shortly before i traded my truck in. It's in good shape. I'll sell it for $20 plus shipping. They cost about $60 or $70 new.

That cold air intake is looks to be the best one I've seen. Most just include the part between the filter anr airflow sensor. This one at least replaces the plastic part to the Throttle body adapter. Why doesn't someone make one that includes a TB adapter??? Guess I'll try to make one>
