The Back Half...
Anybody put a 74+ top on their 1st Gen? I've thought of cutting my top down that way, but if I can find a 2nd Gen 1/2 top and mate it w/ my bikini... It would be like having a T-top or Targa. That would be cool...

I don't think the dimensions are the same on the 73-75's. You're proably going to have to cut down a 1st gen top. Just get a soft top.

I've got 3 tops: Bikini, Soft, and double-wall hard. I've seen a 2nd Gen w/out the front half, and liked it. He had a poor attempt at a bikini, though.
What dimensions are different? If the width is the same, I imagine it would work. I've got a buddy w/a 2nd Gen, maybe we'll play musical tops if the damn rain in TX ever stops! Another problem would be where to store all these tops...

2nd Gen is wider. Won't come close to looking right.

Yeah, I was thinking the second gen is wider too.

Really? How much so? I know the styling is different, but I'd guess things like bed width, at the rails and between the wheel wells, would be the same...
I did see a FORD lingbed w/a 2nd gen top as a camper once. He had it slid forward, so that he had about a 2' bed behind it. Interestingly, the truck and top were the same width. I guess Rednecks will do ANYTHING to save a buck...
