Bought a new truck!

Hey all!

I just totally scored BIG time, 1980 Chev, full trailering setup, working dual tanks, AC, power everything, 350 / TH350 combo, NO rot, just surface rust, two tone brown. $650 cnd!

I'm going to pick it up tommorow night (if it has rot, then I won't buy it, but she swears there is no rot in the thing) I'll probally do some swapping between the GMC, and this Chev (such as making the Chev a GMC ), like putting the 14 bolt from my truck over, TH400 over, etc

The best part is how I found this truck -- I called the wrong number on an ad for an 80 GMC, lol

Why would you want to change your chevy to a GMC? I sold my GMC so I could get a REAL chevy hehe. I thought about re-badging my GMC with Chevy stuff, but I wanted a real K10. And no GMC C10.

What a let down. I got there, and while she was telling the truth about it being rust hole free, she failed to mention the 50 000 lbs of bondo in it, the fact that the big block in it barely ran, and the fact that the thing was othewise completely trashed... The box was all beat up, all four tires were completely burnt off from burnouts, the 12 bolt rear had a blown posi, with like 2" of play in the pinion, the TH350 was leaking ATF, and I didn't even have to pull the dipstick out to check how the oil looked, I could just look at the puddle below it.

I guess, she didn't lie about it, but she definitly didn't tell the truth. My 650 is goin into patch panels for the GMC (man, that truck made my GMC look like a showtruck, lol)

Big block? I thought it was a 350 in that beast?? And how can all four tires be "burnt off from burnouts", if it's only a 2wd?? LOL...I'm just clownin' ya Russell.

hey russ, i have learned NEVER to trust what anyone says in a classified ad...need to see many detailed pics of the vehicle, or inspect it in person. i found an ad in the paper for a " 1968 GMC 1/2 ton, no engine/trans, no rust, great project!, $400 ".
hmm, sounds good, so i went to look at it. first of all, the owner had 4 teeth and smelled like whiskey. second, he must have been a seasoned liar. from where the belt molding on 67-72 trucks goes on down, the truck was rotted out. above the w/s was rotten so bad that from inside the cab you could see the sky. frame was rotted thru in at least 3 spots on each rail. front frame horns were bent to the pass. side, and the body was an interesting conglomeration of 67, 68, and 71 parts. it was a swb truck also, which made me want to cry. no tailgate or grille, or unbroken windows. bed floor shot. wheel tubs were in almost perfect shape tho (still scratchin my head about that). also, it had the dash and glovebox door from a '71 Sierra Grande, and it had an original woodgrain tach dash with a factory throttle control knob, which is worth some $$. he wanted $400, and I figured I could have sold the dash and sierra grande emblem and scrapped the rest and made my $ back, but why bother? some people need to learn how to be honest.

Yeah, she made it out to be a mint truck when she talked to me on the phone. I was to be in the area anyways, so it wasn't too far outta my way. I guess I was kinda expecting this, but who knew. Esspecially since I dailed a wrong number and got her.

It had a big block motor in it, dunno what size (think it was smaller than a 454, just because it had fairly skinny valve covers) Either that, or it was not a chevy engine (minus the HEI dizzy in it)

The thing took a good 5 minutes to start, at which point it quickly died again, checked the fuel, and of course, it was empty. Might have had something to do with why it died so fast / started so poor.

The thing had obviously been used for a LOT of burnouts, there was a lot of rubber on the inside of the wheel wells, which tells me it was bagged on real bad, the interior was disgusting, and overall the whole truck was really really poor.
