If I had the money to buy wheels, I would get the Mickey Thompson Classic Lock.
I really like the Parnelli Jones tires as well. I have been very satisfied with them.

I'm about to install a 6" lift in my 72 4x4. I bought a set of Eagle Alloys 058 (http://www.aewheel.com/wheels_detail.cfm?id=23) off eBay for $350 shipped. I'm going with 35x12.5 Pro Comp Mud Terrains because they are on sale right now (buy 3 get one free). I'll get pics when everything is on (hopefully by the 4th).

i would go 16 or 16.5 rims x10-12" wide and if not going up more in lift go with a 35x14.5" tire is my opinion as far as sizes. 40 inch tires i doubt would fit with any fender left.

I think Weld makes one of the best looking wheels. Go to their web site. I am running 35x15.50's on 16.5x12 Weld Typoons. PJ's or SSR's would be nice on a set of Welds.

Daughter has a 4 and a 3 on hers and she has lots of room for 35's. I always wanted to take the body lift off.

I've read you can mount a 35x12.5 on an 8" rim but it cause the tire to 'bow' so to speak in the middle and you will wear the tire out in the middle faster (because it isn't flat). A 10" rim will work fine for a 12.5".

WELL I'M AN IDIOT, I JUST LOOKED THROUGH ALL MY PAPERWORK AND THE
BLAZER I BOUGHT HAS 15 X 8'S WITH 35 X 12.5'S. SO I SHOULD BE ABLE 2 GO 36'S MAX, THE QUESTION IS, HOW ABOUT 15.5'S OR 12" WIDE RIMS

12" rims will be a problem with the 4" front lift. I doubt you'll be able to go any wider than 10" rims, 8's would be safe.
I have always liked the looks of the M/T Classics and Weld Stone Crushers. Eagle makes a Stone Crusher knock off at about half the price. As far as tread, do you want streetable, mud, or aggressive. Are they just for looks or for performance? I like the look of the Swamper SSR and TrXus STS. I've always liked the setup that IGOR (board member on CK5.com) has on his Blazer. I think his rims are 17" and his tires are 35's. I think he has 8" of lift though. The pic is his rig.

THANX BOUNCER, I WAS GOING 2 BUY 12" WIDE BUT NOW I WILL LOOK
AT STAYING WITH 10'S, NOT A HARD CORE OFF ROADER, I WANT IT TO LOOK MEAN AND AGRESSIVE, BUT I DON'T WANT SOMETHING LIKE BOGGERS. I AM A FAN OF THORNBIRDS, BAJA CLAWS, AND ONE OF THE PROCOMP MODELS.

X-terrain? I have neighbor running them on his 79 f150. Look good and seem to have good road manners. I like the road manners of my 35" bfgs ATs. The bias ply 33" swampers I had were in a nut shell, horrible. But ya gotta like the look. The 35" bias ply ground hawgs on my 71 seem good. No flat spots and balanced fairly nice.

LUV, check out NITTO tires.
They just came out with another truck tire...looks mean I've been running their 'terra grappler' on my 02 chevy 4x4 and just put them on the tahoe too. Great tire. You want something more aggresive than that tire, so check out the new one they have, here ya go... http://www.nittotire.com/tires_mudgrappler.asp |

I SAW THOSE VT, I THINK THEY ARE THE COOL, BUT I LIKE THE MUD GRAPPLER
BETTER, BUT IT IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN 18" RIM SIZE AND THE SELECTION OF 18" RIMS OUT THERE IN THE MARKET RIGHT NOW KINDA SUCKS IMO. :p

Tires
That's the one I was talking about...the mud grappler.
If you can wait untill next year, I'd be willing to bet they introduce some 16 & 17 inches tires on the market. The search continues for that perfect combo... |
