diesel tach
has anyone put a tach in their diesel pickup... i have heard that there werent any factory tachs for the diesels during these years

No, there was no factory tach in the Diesel trucks. There was also no factory tachs intalled in truck after 81.
BTW, I've been to Gothenburg looking for Old John Deere 2 cylinder tractors. Do you know of any for sale in your area? Thanks, Keith

To install a tach in a diesel pickup, you need to buy a special tach made just for diesels. They will have one of two styles of rpm hookups: one is a set of magnets that glue to the harmonic balancer with a reader mounted on the engine, the other is a pickup that hooks up to the alternator and reads alternator rpms and translates that to engine rpms.
Auto-meter makes a diesel tach, as well as several other companies. Casey
