Rear Trailing Arms
Have two sets for a short bed. Should they be welded the full length or is there a gap between the inner and outer. What is filling the gap, RUST???????? My first resto and need help. 69 CST 396(#'s match), short bed, turbo 400, ps,pb a/c,buckets console,tach. Rare or not??? thanks in advance

The two halves are riveted together and rust forms in between forcing them apart. Ideally you want to get the rust out and hitting the sides with a hammer works pretty well prior to sand blasting. After sand blasting you can clamp the parts together and weld them. Once repaired and painted I would suggest sealing the top so that water will not get down inside and remain.
