high emissions

last summer when i got my emissions tested and the motor was new for HC it tested 73 ppm @ 2500 and 150ppm @ idle. this time with about 10500 miles on the motor it tested 108ppm @ 2500 and 769ppm @ idle and i had to rev it up to 1300 for the idle test to get it to pass. what is wrong with it???????

^ Yeah what are they, I live in Cali and even my trucks are emissions exempt. Seriously have you tuned the truck up lately plugs, timing, filters etc.?

the motor has HEI ignition and i pulled out a couple plugs not very long ago and they were clean just a slight brown

HC is hydocarbons, which is usually excessive unburnt fuel. So your probably running a little rich.

i was going to take it back to the shop that did the motor for the adjustment but they want it for like a day and i don't want to let them have it that long so i am going to adjust it myself. how can i tell when the adjustment is just right for max power and low emissions? i'm running an edelbrock carb if it matters
