Looking for this BB bracket for P/S pump

Found this on a 71 Chevrolet truck with a 454. It holds the top of the power steering pump and the bottom of the alternator. Will this also fit the 396/402? If so, does anybody have one? Thanks.

No sir, that is two seperate brackets there.

That's exactly what my big block brackets look like and they are two different units, just real close to each other in that picture.

Yes, it will fit 396, 402, and 454. Mine came off a 402 and I currently have it on my 454.

Tx firefighter, This power steering pump seems to be mounted very securely, it doesn't move when you push on it, which keeps the belt tight. Are these 2 brackets connected for extra support on the pump? The setup on my 70 402 is different, the brackets are not close together, and the pump will move a bit when you push on it. I can't get the belt tight this way. Any suggestions?

I can look at mine tomorrow to make sure, but I believe there is a nut that you need to loosen on the back of the pump. There is a smaller secondary bracket back there.

The alternator uses the cast iron upper bracket there. It bolts to the front of the head and wraps around the side of the head too.

The power steering uses a steel bracket that bolts to the front of the block with 7/16 bolts. I seem to remember that there is a small bracket on the back of the pump that bolts to the block too.

If you can't figure it out, I'll get you some good details pictures of mine tomorrow and post them for you.

Gregbr,
The bracket located under the square headed plug is the lower bracket for the Pump. There is another bracket that attaches to the head back at the #1 exhaust port, front bolt. It is a simple bracket, only about 4 inches long has adjustment slot on one end and hole for stud at the other, looks sorta like the upper bracket for BB truck alternator, only smaller. Cheyenne Pickup Parts in OK. did have reproductions about $20 or so, might also check with Classic Muscle(part of Modern Chevrolet) in Winston Salem,NC. I'M not sure if they have them but it is close to home for you(i.e. quick shipping). Both places usually run ads in Super Chevy. Cheyenne PU Parts usually in rear, Modern Toward the middle. Hope this helps. Harold

I have the two correct brackets for the BB truck.... the large bottom bracket, and the small top bracket that looks like angle iron about 4 inches long. My problem is that the pump will pull toward the radiator when you tighten the belt. The single top bracket does not seem strong enough to hold it in proper alignment.

I'm shakey here on exactly what you're asking for.

I have a proper big block pump and set of brackets all sandblasted and painted up sitting on my workbench.

If you want or need any pictures, I'll go take them and post them for you.

I have the 2 correct brackets (1 bottom, 1 top), but the pump will still pull forward when the belt is tightened. Is there 2nd bracket on the top of the pump that helps secure it? If you stand in front of your truck and pull forward on the pump pulley, does the pump move? I think a good picture would help. Thanks

There's only the 2 brackets. The big steel one and the little angle iron one on the back. That's it.

I'm at the fire station today, but I'll take some pictures of mine and post them tomorrow when I get off work.

are you sure the front bolt and rear nut where the pump mounts to the large bottom bracket are not too loose causing the pump to pull toward the radiator when tightning the belt?? just a thought

Good idea, I will double check the tightness of the bottom bolt and the bracket to engine bolts. I have had all this on the truck for awhile and recently noticed it would move.
