Cleaning engine, mainly carbon

So I tore my engine down and there is alot, when I say alot, I mean ALOT of carbon build up in the engine(stupid carburetors). What's the ebest way to clean the carbon off the pistons and heads/valves. Alos, any other good ways to clean other parts up. I'm gonna be having the block dipped I think. Thanks for any help.

I used some carb cleaner to clean the carbon off of my pistons and it worked pretty good. If you are taking the pistons out, you could soak them in something to soften the carbon junk before you try to scrape it off. Have fun.

If your gonna send the block in for cleaning and machining, send everything with it and let them mic things up and see what you can use over and what you should replace before you waste time and money cleaning. You may need to bore and replace pistons, rods, regrind/polish crankshaft, oil pump, camshaft, lifters, timing chain and gears, replace cam bearings, freeze plugs, recondition the heads with new valves, seats, guides, springs etc. and the list goes on.

Well, I've already had a friend look at that's into engine and stuff. He mainly said get the block cleaned and honed, no boring as the cylinders looked really good. The engine has low miles on it and lost a valve keeper so. The valve guide is broke and I am gonna have the heads worked a little bit and a 3-angle job. Gonna throw new rings in it, might as well. And a new set of pushrods, as when the valve keep came off, the pushrod bent

Thanks guys.
