I'm reinstalling the factory headliner after a recent paint job. I used the 3M 77 adhesive, sprayed both sides, followed all directions. I had it held in place overnight, but when I pulled the props out from under it, it only stuck in place for about 30 minutes. Any suggestions? I'm tempted to resort to construction adhesive. Thanks in advance for any input.

where was the adhesive when the headliner fell was it all on the headliner or was it stuck on the roof? if it didn't stick on the roof i'd say that there was some wax or solvent in the new paint that didn't allow the glue to bond to the roof
when i put my headliner up i sanded the roof with 200grit whiped it down 2X with wax and grease remover . i used a high-temp contact cement from jcwhitney and haven't had any troubles since i installed it 3years ago

I use contact cement to put my last two or three on. Seemed to work well . Only hard part is when you put the headliner up cause you don't get any chance to readjust alignment. But they stay stuck!

you can use the 3m weatherstrip adhesive (comes in black, yellow and clear). I used this n my truck and the headliner stuck just as it did originally. The orginal stuff was a bear to get offwhen preping for paint and this stuff was the closest thing I could find to original. The stray stuff does not work very well. You might also check Lowes or Depot and get some heavy duty velcro strips and hold it up that way (did this for gas tank cover because spray stuff does not hold. jmo

I used double sided moulding tape from Pep Boys. I put a strip around the edge and one behind each of the molded seams in the panel. Just slapped it up, layed on the seat and pressed it up real good with my feet. It's STUCK.... like sh#t on a blanket....

I installed a headliner in mine. I had it covered in leather so it is quite a bit heavier than a stock one that is covered in thin vinyl. I used Liquid Nails. It comes in a caulking type tube and works great. You can get it at almost any home improvement store. Cut some 1" x 4's that run the length of the headliner. Also, cut some 1" x 2's for support to hold everything up. Have them propped from the floor to the 1" x 4". Make the cut a little long so everything is wedged up there nice and tight. Let it set up over night and you're done.

I have some 2x4s and a couple pieces of plywood...using liquid nails because it is thick and forms to top...leave it overnight...
