I need help w/towing w/my 72 sub
Anyone know of a cost effective way to beef up the back of a 72 sub? When I hook up my trailer to pull my street rod it squats right down. I've thought about sway bars, air shocks, air bags ($2,000!), - - - I'm not sure of the best and most cost effective way to go.

Towing with your Burb
Do you have a set of the aux leaf helper springs?
If not get a set, they give an additional 500 lbs of support to the rear of coil spring trucks It was a factory or dealer added option that bolts on. You can find a set of the leafs, load plates and bumpers for around $50.00 + $50.00 for shipping, they are heavy! |

My son drove his car to N.C. to pick up a 72 sub for me. The sub had air shocks on rear and was inflated to 60 lbs. He pulled his car back to Fl. w/o any problems and no rear sag. The air shock will hold 10-90 lbs of air. After the trip I lowered pressure back down to 15 lbs. for level and normal ride. If I need to haul heavy load just inflate shocks.

I would add a weight distributing hitch it transfers the load to the front of the tow truck and leaves the ride soft without the stiff air shocks. A good weight distrib hitch will run around $500 but you will be much safer towing with it as your steering doesn't go loose when you have the trailer on.

ditto on the weight distribution hitch. There is a world of difference in driving with a loaded trailer. You can find them used for $100-200 and new for $300-500. When I was looking at new I think I was finding $300 class 5 from Valley or Reese. There were lot's to look at on the web, google "weight distribution hitch"

How about firestone riderites (air bags) eeeaasy to install. If you dont want to install a compressor then put fittings on them that contain schraeder valves like your car tires, then inflate or deflate as needed. They cost around 275.00 to 300.00.
