Hood emblem restoration?

My hood emblem needs some help before it goes back on. If you look a the back side of the emblem some of the silver material is missing along with some of the blue material that you see on the front of the emblem lense.

Is there a way to replace the lense or make it look better or do I have to buy a whole new hood emblem?

Haven't personally tried this but, I would pop the lense out and use some kind of paint stripper to take the silver and blue off. If its glass aircraft remover or something like that should work. If its plastic I don't know what to use. Once the paints off just paint it whatever color you want then back that with the silver paint. Polish up the bowtie and your set. Good Luck!

I really like the blue that is used by the factory and think it will look good against the silver. Wonder how hard it will be find something that color. I'm afraid that might be difficult but I will look around. Too bad that lense isn't reproduced, that would be the easiest solution. My chrome outer part is in good shape.

Yukon, I found the right color in Plasti-kote van and truck touchup aeresol. I used laquer thinner to remove old paint. It looks like new. Good luck John

I have not found a lense replacement anywhere, so I decided to replace mine (was not too impressed how the replacement fit either) as the chrome was pitted. That blue is nice Yukon and I belive it is identical to the bowtie on the horn button also, Doug

Be careful getting the tabs bent without breaking them. I would try leaving it in and not rick breaking the tabs or the lens.. Just my opinion

Wink

The cost of quality paint these days makes it almost worth just buying a new one.
But Mark, after you see the post by Bill showing what he did with his emblem, the creative wheels could get to spinning, LOL! I have the airbrush ready to go if you want to try somethin', hehee!

Well, the lacquer thinner is taking the silver paint right off but the blue is a bit harder. Wonder if I could use a scotchbrite type pad with the thinner to carefully coax the blue off.

Emblem is missing one tab and one broke as I was seeing how easy they would bend so I won't be messing with the other ones.
