Dash Dead? What gives!?

Well... Ive finally had a ton of free time on my hands and started working on the bucket again. I was getting tired of having no speedometer and I ripped out the cruise control that wasnt even hooked up. So I took out the cluster to unhook the cable and I unplugged the harness that was attached to it. So it ends up I need a new cable that is longer for the speedo. Ok, no biggie, but I goto plug the harness back in and the dash doesnt work like its sopposed to. It lights up and all, but wont read anything. I checked the fuses a ton of times and still no go. Its wierd. Anybody got tips to getting that sucker to come back to life!?

Did you check the little fuses that are in the harness that come out of the firewall, just under the windshield wiper motor? They're the same TYPE (tube) but they're about ¼ of the size of normal ones.

Check the printed circuit board connector, many times when i've had to unplug it the PCB had moved and the connector's tabs didn't match with the PCB's circuit lines.

Yeah, I didnt find the fuses yet. Ill check out the harness again against the circuit board. I think it might be the fuses since the lights turn on but everything else doesnt register. Or could be the board for that matter also. Hrmm... Ill update later when its not so hot.

Those fuses are for a truck with an ammeter, they only protect the ammeter from being cooked, not power the dash. Clean your connections and make sure the connector is fully seated. The dash lights get their power through a different source. All the gauges get their power through the ignition switch (an ammeter requires no power source), so if that one connection is loose, none of the gauges will work.

Welp guys. It was the fuse for the dash in the fuse box. It didnt look broken, but after further examination it was busted. Simple fix. Thanks for the help though.
