Poison Ivy

Will try to get a few more show pics up later, but these are of one of the trucks that was at the Athens Al show 7/10/04. This truck has been around a while and you may have seen it or pictures of it before. Will also be on a upcoming "Big boyz toyz" show, out of Oxford AL but is on in Al and parts of GA.
1969 Chevy that he started showing in late 80's as original restore, but had a little chrome on the engine and they stuck him in the modified classes, so he just started modifying. $32K in the motor and rear end, (not sure if the 2 speed power glide was included in the 32K). 4.4 sec in the 1/4 mile.

Instead of "Poison Ivy", it should be called, "When too much money and Bad taste meet" My .02.

When I was a graphic design major in college, one of my teachers told me not to get "too designy" with my work. He was preaching the "less is more" concept and he was right. I had some tendencies to get over detailed and not look at the big picture.

When I see this truck, I think that someone had that same ailment. I see some neat things here, but they are lost in the abundance of "stuff" going on all over the place. Not a bad truck, but definitely not something I'd want to be seen in either.

Too each his (or to be politically correct "her") own.

To each their own but it's not my taste either. It saddens me to think of the truck that could have been built with the same amount of time and money that was invested into that one.

4.4 1/4 mile!? Those are top fuel times. I think he was mistaken.

My thoughts exactly. Maybe 4.4 sec in 1/8 mile?

There are a few things on the truck that I like, but as a over all package I too think the truck has been over done. I know he has won several awards including some from the world of wheels shows, so there are some people that must like it.
I've seen this truck for several years at shows, but have never seen it on the track so can not validate the 1/4 mile time. I know the owner said that he is running a special gas mixture that is around 200 octane and also has NOS system along with the parachutes.

Some people just have bad taste I guess!! Defintly know way its 4.4 in the 1/4 mile highly highly doubt he would even come close to that in the 1/8 mile.

4.4 in the quarter. Nope. Nothing with that much underhood sheetmetal and that much upholstery could go that fast unless it had an F-14 strapped to it's A$$ and the after burners were lit. That thing only has a BB Chevy and a 671 or 871 blower. Even with nitrous it's not gonna make more than about 2500 HP and that's probably not even 8 second material on something that is obviously a heavy vehicle. Not enough aerodynamic aids to keep it planted to the track either. Running a 4.4 it would mean it was doing it at a few hundred feet above the track. I don't see a cage either. If it's ever seen a track it probably never even saw a 10 without being told never come back with no safety gear.

Oh ya with even 2500 Hp the frame on that thing would be a pretzel with no cage to hold it all together.

i think with the 1/4mile and octane claims it's pretty much a "fantasy island" ride

what he really needs on that truck is a couple of pink flamed toilet seats for skylights "acme truckin" on the doors and Willie Coyote behind the wheel

name of truck

I just remembered an old school mustang I saw once a few years ago, think it was a 67, that had a similar name, poison ivy. Yet this car was black and it had a vine of small and intricate ivy leaves that had been airbrushed around the inside of the engine compartment and a few other places...very subtle, very cool.

Don't mean to beat the 1/4 mile thing to death, but even to run a 7.69@176 it would have to look more like this. And if he spent $32k on that motor and rear end he got raped bad, even if that included a 2-speed. I would gladly take over as his engine builder

I can appreciate the effort, but lately I've noticed the cars and trucks I really look at at car shows are the ones that are stock or subtle. The outrageous ones don't interest me...

I don't understand the intake set-up.He has a supercharger sticking thru the hood,in the fresh cool air, then runs long intake pipes back under the hood to suck on the hot air coming from the radiator?
