replacement body panel nightmares - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I need to replace a number of body panels on my 67 both front fenders and doors. I'm sure that they could be repaired with patch panels but if I new that the replacement panels would actually fit that's the way I'd go. My experience tells me that not all reproduction panels are alike. I can remember once getting a hood for a VW project that looked fine till I set it on the car. It had a crown that was an 1 1/2 out of shape and the length was two inches too short. I'd like to hear what your experiences were with replacemnt panels and what would be recommended, who do deal with and who has some good exchange policy. I don't want to find mysell going broke paying shipping both ways and restocking fees etc.

Here is a pic of my blazer-

Aftermarket parts:
Passenger inner and outer fender
Drivers Fender
Tailgate

It did take a little bit of time to fit the panels right, but I didn't prefit before paint..(not the best way to go

) I think if you prefit before you paint you can have a nice truck with aftermarket parts. I haven't heard good things about the bedsides (aftermarket). but I am happy with the cost and "rust-free-ness" of my new panels!

No, after market panels don't fit...at least not without some work. If you are not ready to make them fit a little bit or more, better get some original...and you may still have to do some work on them...but they are nice clean straight metal and metal can be cut, bent, welded and shaped...and that is how you make after market panels fit.

I have had mixed luck with both but the stock sheet metal is usually heavier and fits much better. There are some very reliable vendors on here that have very nice original, clean and "rust free" sheet metal at fair prices. Go to the Parts board and ask for what you need...they will respond. Don't be afraid to ask for references either. I can personally vouch for PICKMUP and WES in the Pacific Northwest.
