Need a number off an 84 EGR valve please!

Need to get a new EGR valve for my 84. It HAD an 89 engine (305) when I got it. Just got through rebuilding an 86 engine (305) and installing it. After much research, have determined that the only EGR valve I have (the one that was on the 89 engine) is the one for the 89 engine, NOT the original one from the original 84 engine (which I never saw). When you buy an EGR, to get the correct one, you really need the numbers off the old one. I have to get through the emissions test, have to take the 'passed' certificate with me to get the title transferred, so I really want to get the right EGR, not a best guess substitute from the list of available ones at the auto parts store.

If someone has an 84 (early 84 with no ECM) C-10 with the original EGR valve still installed, can you post the number off of it? Should be an 8 digit number like 17084815 or 17110507 or something like that, may have a couple of letters in front of it. There should be a second line of numbers under that ending with an N or P, most likely N. I looked at an 85 that was very similar to mine, and when researching the number off the 85 at the parts store, we found it to be one of the series of numbers for 85 replacements, but the available EGR's for 84's were a different series, so I'm gonna need a number of an 84 specifically to get the right one.

If someone has an 84 out there that can help, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Check Rockauto.com
I know this will not the complete answer to the question but the "more info" pictures will help to reduce the number of options. You can also relate the 1708 numbers to Delco numbers.
Important things are California or Fed, and automatic transmission.
Look at the gasket shapes in the pictures and compare to your manifold.
If you have a manifold shaped like Delco 2145519 then this is your only option, if it is shaped differently then you will have to get more info to decide which of the other two it might be.
Most part stores can cross reference Delco part numbers.
Hope this helps.

Try this site and look under the emissions catalog. http://www.tomco-inc.com.

Thanks, maybe I can use the number off CT's when he gets it and go to rockauto and/or tomco/inc and find the one I need. Meanwhile, the 86 engine is up and running, just don't have it inspected yet. Put a different 700r4 in it too. Can't wait to get it where I can take it out and drive it enough to check it all out, make sure the lock up is working, etc.
Appreciate the input!

Looked at the Autozone site. They list these as a replacement if you don't have the original number-

O.E.M. #17084814, 17084815, 17084816, 17084818, 17084820, 17110507, 17110508, 17110509, 17110511, 17110513

Went to the Chevy dealership during lunch and got them to look up a replacement for an 84 with a 305. They came up with Production #17084817 and Part # 17110510, both of which are conveniently skipped as possible numbers on the Autozone site.

Went back to the Autozone site and looked it up answering 'Yes' that I did have the original number and plugged in the number from the dealership, and it did find one in the database to replace it, special order, and about $5 more than the basic one that replaces all the ones in the list.

One of the Chevy dealerships here in Houston has one of their recommended one's in stock for $77 (with the part numbers they gave me)

Still curious as to what number CT-Truckster has on his, and curious as to why Autozone has all the other ones listed if Chevy says this is the number that goes with an 84.

Well, I could take the one I have in with me and probably find one with the same footprint/bolt pattern, etc, but I gotta make sure it's the right one functionally, has to be right to pass the emissions test. Not a real expensive thing, $45 to $75 or so, but other than taking a chance on spending money on the wrong one, since I'm having to replace all the emissions stuff (vacuum hoses/switches/check valves, air pump and all the hoses and tubes associated with that, etc) if it doesn't pass I don't want to be left wondering if a guessed at part is causing it to fail. If I go all known original parts and follow the vacuum diagram exactly, it should pass with no problem.

Sorry it took me so long to reply but the egr valve is no longer on my engine. all the emission stuff has been disconnected but most of it is still there, I couldn't remeber if it was still on there or not.

Ok.. wish I could just do away with it here. Thanks anyway, your effort is appreciated all the same. I was hoping when I talked to the dealership that the number they gave me would be one of the ones in the group of numbers that show up in the list at the auto parts stores as a basic replacement, but noooo, it has to be the one number that the auto parts store skips over for some reason. Well.... they do have it, but it only comes up in a number search and isn't 'listed' as an 84 Chevy truck part. I'll probably just fork out the $77 to the dealer so there will be no question. Thanks again.

Delco #2145518

Delco #2145518 shows as being a replacement for 17084817 on the Rockauto site. Price is $48.79. I believe this comes with a gasket.
Napaonline.com crosses the 17110510 number to part #MPF33069A for 39.99, and also Echlin part number CRB23128 for $61.99 with mounting hardware. It crosses the Delco number to 3 echlin part numbers, one of which is the same as the one listed for the 17110510.
The numbers I listed before were for an 84 not an 86.
If I'm not mistaken the 17088417 number is the EGR valve, the 17110510 number is the EGR with a gasket.
If needed you could have the dealer parts guy pull the parts and you could look at them to make sure.
I believe you will find the dealer has delco parts with delco part numbers.
Good Luck,
Let us know what you find.
