Tx Firefighter
Will you please let me know what you find out? I'm in the same position as you with needing to decide pretty soon which way to go. I'm going to convert my engine to the GM serpentine belt set up that Summit sells. It includes the D4 compresor, water pump, power steering pump, all the brackets, tensioner and belt. I spoke to Shawn at Rick's Pickup Truck Parts and he seems to be very knowledgeable about Old Air, the brand he sells, which he swears by. He will sell whatever parts are needed for the system with this setup rather than having to buy a bunch of stuff I don't need. I'd be curious to see if you get any responses from other Old Air dealers. Thanks

I'm into a bulk purchase. My question is: It sounds like either system will cool just fine in a pickup. How well will they cool a Suburban. There must be about 4 times the space to cool? Have there been anyone out there who installed a unit in a Sub. and how well did it cool? Thanks
John

straight up here:
My neighbor has an older (very early 90's) Old Air unit in his 72 Blazer. It cools like sheeot. He used it because Old Air is local here in town. I mean like, roll the windows down and turn the A/C off bad. I talked to the Old Air guys on the phone and they told me that his is the old type of A/C system that they used to sell. It used the stock heater unit and piggybacked the A/C unit onto it. The tech guy admitted that the older units didn't cool real well, but assured me, the new units are very much better. He stated the new system completely replaced the old stock unit, heater and all. Also, memeber here 1969 1/2 six pack bee (I think that's his name) used, I think, a Vintage Air system and hated it so bad, he pulled it out and pretty much gave it away here on the board (like a few hundred dollars). He put in Old Air and is very happy with the results. There used to be a big write up he did on this board showing tons of pictures with very detailed explanation. I can no longer find it anywhere on here though.

I would be interested in a group deal as well.
I would also like to know if any board members have the template for covering the firewall ? I would like to completely smooth that area of the firewall and could be doing that now while the cab is on the dolly.

A/C units
We have installed about 65 units in various vehicles with no problems with cooling and it gets about as hot in Mesa Az.as any place in the country. The main reason we have no problem with these units is we do everything as suggested by OLD AIR in the instructions that come with unit .I can sell this unit for $795.00 plus freight.

Shawn, Is that a price for a complete unit and would the price also be applicable for a 56 pickup?

Does this Old Aire unit that Shawn is offering hang below the dash or is it in dash like factory? I have a 71' non air cab and wanted to cut the areas in the dash so it looks original when looking in the cab.

Due to the amount of typing this reply would take to get everything explained correctly, and since I don't type fast or well - please give me a call and I will get everything figure out/answered. This was originally started by Rick and I am trying to get it all under control and the phone seems the quickest and most accurate way to do it.
Tx_Firefighter - I called them and it is all setup so they can be picked up localy. Shawn 1877 641-1387 |
