what kind of gears do i have?
i have a 1985 silverado 4x4 lwb almost completely original to my knowledge what kind of gears would be in it stock? it has 700r4 and a 305 so ya know if it matters

Usually it will say in your options sticker in the glovebox. Most likely yours are 2.73 or 3.08.

hmmm so if i wanted to put some 4:10 or 3:73's in what is going to be easiest? get a whole axle from a junkyard or just have my mechanic put some used gears in? do i have to change the front as well since its 4x4?

you must have the same size tires all the way around as well as gears You could change them and not the front if you never use the 4wd but thats not a very good idea imo to kill one function to get more rear gear.

With a 700 trans most likely 3.73s but to be sure there should be a tag on one of the front or rear diff bolts
