Board recommendations -
Need some advice as to what to add to my truck.
1980 Scottsdale 4x4, 350, 4v Edel 1406, RV Cam,No egr. That's it so far. Advice items: - Headers: Shorty or Long (I DO want the low end torque!) - Dual Exhaust or Cat back. (Cat will likely come off) - Best sounding mufflers. (quiet at cruise and throaty at WOT) - Intake (looking at Edelbrocks) Any other items that "Bolt On" for just a little more street excitement and the occasional GRUDGE at the local race track. (some Ford trucks out here think they're Chevy's) Maybe: Ignition (MSD etc), Elec Fans, Jetting, Blower, Turbo, NOS. Good stiff tailwind... Thanks - Wedgemon *Mountainous Surf - The Wedge! |

Headers: Hooker Competition headers (ceramic coated would be better but more money)
Exhaust: Dual 2-2.25 pipes, Dynomax supper turbo mufflers Intake: Probably an Edelbrock RPM its better than the performer and doesn't take that much low end out of the engine. Some may disagree with the RV cam though not being hardly more than stock with that RPM manifold. Would recommend being able to find a distributor shop and have them setup the advance curve for your engine. They use a machine to match different combinations on springs to tailor an advance curve for your vehicle. Its also a DIY thing it you wanted but it will take a lot of gas, trail and error. Have you looked at the spark plug to read them? What do they look like?

Thanks for the response,
The plugs were slightly carboned. But, I've yet to "Initially tune" the 1406. I just slapped it on and it out ran the Q jet. So I have'nt messed with it yet. But, it is leaving spots on the driveway. (to my wifes dismay!) Also, your exhaust ideas sound great, but is that dual or ?? Thanks - Wedgemon |

Yes, that would be a dual exhaust setup I was talking about. It would also be nice to have a crossover pipe but with the 4x4 transfer case it makes it more difficult to do.
Ohh yeah, Welcome to the Board!!!

Do you know where the oil leak is coming from?

Oil Leak???
Not an oil leak. Blows out exhaust. I suspect I'm a little rich with the "Un-Tuned" 1406 and the un needed catalytic. And I'm eather blowing residual carbon fron the exh pipes or I've got rich build up in the cat - 'cos its a little wet OUT THE EXHAUST.
