73 - 87 spindles

I know I've seen something about this in the past but I can't remember. Does anyone know if the spindles from a half ton 73-87 fit on a 67-70 half ton? I have access to a 85 GMC 1500. I think the cross member is bent, but I know the spindles are OK.

They will fitr but you have to change the ball joints and the outer tie rod ends of your truck become the inners and 73 up tie rod ends go to the outside, takes a different sleeve to connect (I think) the two together. Hope it helps you out

Yup, upper & lower balljoints, & outer tierod ends.....on your 67-70, there is not enough info on the centerlink. You might opt for the centerlink off the donor truck, & figure tie rod assy (inners, outers, & sleeves). if you look 71 up on the 1/2 tons, the centerlink should work.....just remember that the upper ball joint, &the outer tierod end is different 73 on ,for the 1/2 tons vs the 71-72 pcs. best of luck, crazyL

Sorry, you confused me. What ball joints do I need if I have to change them out? Do I use the year of the donor? Then, what tie rod ends? 71-72 or the year of the donor again? Longhorn you're also saying that I need to change out the centerlink because it may not be long enough?

Take the spindles, rotors, calipers, hoses, tierods, centerlink, draglink and pittman arm off the donor truck and get 73-87 upper and lower balljoints.

Jim, you just need to order the balljoints, tierods ,ect for the yr of the spindle you use. the taper on the balljoints differ from 67-70, vs 71-72. 73-87 also changed the taper on the upper balljoint, & the outer tierod end...as compaired the the 71-72 pcs. As MOTHER TRUCKERS said, peel it all off 1 truck(it will save a lot of confusion). Best of luck, crazyL
