whats a original 72 super 4x4 short fleet

a guy in town has a orche and white shortbox fleetside 4x4 72 cheyenne super hes thinking about selling, best thing is its all original, maybe a LITTLE paintwork back when the truck was nearly new. interior is really nice. one little rip in the seat. the truck has ac and maybe tilt, not sure on that. its a original arizonia truck with all documentation, matching numbers original 350 engine, the truck is also a posi rear end truck. what do you think somthing like this is worth? he says i have first grabs at it since ive been bugging him for about 3 years. hes thinking in the 9-10,000 range. is this truck a good investment to get? let me know im kinda hot on it. its a great looking rig

Matt, its hard to say without seeing it.If its a true cheyenne super shortbed 4x4 and it a clean original truck I would say $10000-$12000.That would be with no rust and good original or even an older repaint. If its as nice as you describe it then what he's thinking seems very fair to me.

An all original SWB Super as you describe sounds like would be worth 10K.
but it's really hard to say without seeing it in person, let alone photos.
If you are confident it is truely an all original Super, 9 - 10K sounds really fair.
Post photos if you can.

Matt

Sounds just like my truck I bought in March from Arizona. Mine is a 72 and has all original paint and is a factory 4x4 shortbox Cheyenne in orange and white with black interior. Bed had a camper shell covering it since new and the bed is mint original. It has cold factory air, tilt, tach 350 automatic and posi 3.73 gears and they are all on the glovebox id. I even got the original paper work from the selling dealer from October 71 in Phoinex. I bought it over the phone after the owner gave me the history even before it came out in Hemmings for $9000 plus about $1000 to get it shipped and the grille replaced that was damaged in shipping. Before it got to me the guy called and said his phone hadn't stopped ringing and one guy got my number and offered me $11k. This was my dream of a lifetime so this truck will never leave my side while I am alive. The price I paid was very, very reasonable for an original paint truck without rust in my mind. The very fact that amazes me is just think how many honest true factory loaded 4x4's, even long box trucks are out there sporting their original paint and totally rustfree?
Then factor in that they are only factory survivor originals once and in my 25 years of owning these trucks I had never seen one like this and the condition.
Buy it and preserve it so somebody doesn't rod it.

If you decide you can't afford it, post it here so someone that would appreciate it can preserve it

It`s worth that if it`s got low miles(varifiable)in prime condition:everything working to original specs and flawless cosmetics.Anything less,I wouldn`t go more than $7,500-8,000.A good paint job(no bodywork)will run you $3,000+/-.Remember,they look good sittin`,but these are 30+year old trucks.I try to buy trucks w/original paint in well-kept condition. But it`s not unusual to have a wondering front-end,etc.once you drive `em.So judge it after you check it mechanically, and of course, test drive it.Good luck.
