Door lock troubles

Just replaced the lock cylinders in my doors, and now they lock when you close the door, but when you push the button to open the door it automatically unlocks the door. Anyone know whats up? I can also lock the door before closing it, and it'll pop right back unlocked.

OKAY, so whats the point of door locks!?!?!? I can lock my door then someone can just come up and press the door handle and the door will unlock itself?! Why don't I put a big sign that says 'Steal me' on it while i'm at it.


Maybe I wasn't too clear with whats wrong. I can close the door, lock it, and then press the door handle from the outside and the door will unlock itself and open right up. Any ideas on whats wrong?

I forget how the mechanism works, but I think you installed the latch mechanism, for the outside button, bass-ackwards. Open it up again and have a good look. Got a Haynes or Chilton manual? I think they have pictures.

And the only way to lock your door is to push down the button from inside or to lock from the outside using your key.

anyone have any other ideas? Is the arm off of the lock mechanism supposed to go in between the fork thats mounted on the door?

yes, the arm goes in middle of fork. there is a way to make it so they dont unlock when closing door. getting ready to do this to mine tomorrow. I may have to post it if people are interested. looks like it will take some reworking of door latch mechanism.

I am not for sure on this but here goes. I just recently replaced the door locks because mine had frozen up, and ran into teh same problem. It was the springs on the end of the door jamb lock (the part that locks into the cab) there were springs on the inside and they had gone bad, therefor not keeping enough tension on the lock mechanisim.

Well... after my morning ritual of cussin' fussin' and threating the truck... I've come to findout that one side (pass), fully engages when you go to close it, while the drivers side only moves a little bit (kinda like 1/4 the way locked), and doesnt go any futher. Anyone know of a fix on this? I do have two spare doors. If I need any parts.

Have you replaced the door seals recently? I have this same prob on BOTH doors and it is because PO has renewed the door weather stripping making the seal really well. However, you now have to push in on the door to lock it from the outside with the key. A pain in the *** I admit but I can't see how to readjust it to alleviate the problem. I about worn out the bolts on the latch plate tryin' to get it out. Sorry I"m not so much help!

Ha! Thanks alot!! That solved my problem!!! I did notice that the weather stripping on the bottom of the door was out of whack, So I went out and pushed on the door to lock it, and it worked great. Thanks again!
