How To Route Disc Brake Hoses?

Converted my 70 GMC to front disc brakes, and was wondering if someone had a pic of how to route the hoses to the calipers?Been so long that I forgot. Thanx for any help.

Dan,

On the 71-72's there is a bracket that is welded to the cross member in front of the coil springs. The bracket is at an angle and the hose part sticks through the bracket, held in place with a clip. The hoses are routed rearward so that the index on the caliper end of the hose will fit the tabs on the calipers.

I can get a pic for you tomorrow, (I don't have my camera with me at this time).

I will at least get your post back to the top!

Here you go.

Everything that Jim said is true of the 71-72 factory disc brake trucks.

The issue is, on the pre 71 drum brake trucks, the tab where the brake line and hose join is behind the crossmember rather than in front of it like the disc trucks. No factory hose will work properly when converting the truck to discs.

You can either (1) convert the hard lines to run up to the front side of the crossmember and use factory 71-72 hoses

or

(2) like I did, pay Early Classics 60 bucks a pair for special hoses they sell. These hoses bolt to the factory drum brake hard line and bracket and also hook up to the disc calipers. It's a special hose that they've sourced that fixes all the problems.

Dan,

Here is a pic of a 71 C-10. The bracket is mounted in the front so that the brake hse is held in place where the hard line comes across. You can also see how the hose attaches to the caliper.

racedvl,

Good eye!

We call those spiders "Daddy Longlegs" and they are everywhere!

I wish that I could get rid of them.
