What year were the long Spark Plug wires?

I bought new wires for the truck yesterday and 3 were too short. I seem to remember a thread that discussed which year vehicle to get plug wires for so they would be long enough. I thought it was an older corvette, but I'm not sure. I thought someone was using the wire splitters that connected to the block at the back and they said a certain year corvette had the correct length wires. i'm just looking for anything that would be long enogh. 60.00 for wires to get fried on the manifold isn't going to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on whether you have HEI or not. No HEI, get the stock wires for a 67-72 truck smallblock. HEI, get 75 vette wires. here are the vette wires using HEI on a stock ramhorn equipped smallblock

Isn't it a shame that Jeff(CPNE) doesn't remember how to run his wires the "stock" way. Let's ask the judges..........yep, they all say that qualifies as a custom modification. Let's just hope that picture is a stock photo and not one of Jeff's engines.

I just did a conversion to HEI and the GM part # for the delco wires is 12043740. I always run the wires on top of the valve covers and curl them around the cyl heads.

I just got the Accel part # 4041 for my truck. They are 8mm (I wanted 8.8mm, but they had to order them and I didn't have time to wait for them). I had to put my own boots on the ends (what a pain in the a$$) , but they look great and were plenty long enough!! I was able to route them all down behind the back of the block ( like the pick above) using the wire loom attached to the back of my block on both sides. I also used the looms included and they look really good. My old wires ran over the valve covers, but I kinda dig the way this really cleans up the engine. The engine looks less cluttered now, and that's hard to do with A.C. hoses and all the other hoses, and you can see the shiney valve covers now. Thanks again CPNE!

That is the stock routing. Those looms that bolt to the back of the block are factory. Down behind block, then up under the stock ramshorn manifolds. The problem is with the non-stock HEI. If you ask for plug wires for an HEI equipped truck engine they are too short to route correctly. :p The only rams horn equipped HEI smallblocks were mid-70's vets. At least it's got the stock accessory brackets, valve covers, no headers, and is in the correct V8 position

Ok, i just did this last night. I have HEI and I hate the angle plugs, especially with my ram horns. I bought plugs for a 76 Pickup with a 454. They have the straight boots on the plug ends and are more than long enough.

The best part, is that they are only $15.99 with a lifetime warranty at Autozone.

Jeff, the way I have seen has the wires in a clip on the oil pan rail and the 1,3 and the #2, 4 wires actually run between the block and the motormount on their way up to the plugs. And yes, the back wire holders are indeed correct. I was just funnin' you for the routing of the front pairs of wires. It looks like Dean has his the way I know of.

Ok, so what is the correct wires to use on an HEI setup with hooker long tube headers? Does anybody have any pics of the correct way to wire those up as well?

Yes, my routing is pretty much stock and it is a pain to get the wires between the motor mount and the block. You really need to pull the mount off or the wire boot off to get it thru there.
