Are you not going to run a sway bar and disconnects?

4x4's did not have sway bars pre 73, if that is what you mean

sway bars are pointless on a 4x4, unless stock, lifted I wouldn't even bother. I took mine off when I had 4" lift and it made no difference other than allowing me some more flex in the front.

what advantages do those shackles offer over stock? are they longer? looks to me like more of a hinderance than anything. they're tied together which takes away flex, and that shackle angle is most definitely going to give you a rough ride.

Advantages? They're longer and stronger. Have you seen OEM's ? I'm trying to build a super dependable trail rig so any potential problems that I address now is important to me. I don't like to be ''that guy'' broke down, especially if preventive actions could have changed the outcome. I've personally seen stock Chevy shackles fail. Yes there may be a slight compromise in flex, but the fact that all is greasable will aid flex. The "shackle angle'' is more or less same as the stock shackles. The pinion angle is more affected, but that is addressed with shims.

same here, i'm gooing to use 3/8" flat stock to make my own. standard shackles are 4" and 89-91 K5 shackles (as well as ORD greasables) are 4.5". mine will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 7.25" and will use a modified mounting point in the frame for a better angle. not only will it improve my flex off road, but will improve my ride on road by making my springs feel softer than they are.

for a little more info and some pics...
