im an idiot lol
i know everyone gets told to be safe at work and not to take shortcuts but you get to hear it again,
today at work i was turning a piece of metal on the lathe and i was wearing some fabricator gloves because the hot chips were burning my hand, my boss even told me not to wear them or get some tight fitting ones because the baggy ones can catch on moving parts, well i thought to myself im only going to be 5 more minutes its fine, a couple minutes later WAAAM, my glove caught the workpeice and it twisted my hand backwards so my fingertips were touching my wrist, holy F did this hurt, it yanked the fingers right off my glove! i pretty much went into shock and almost passed out, for about 10 minutes i sat there in the bench feeling like i was going to hurl, to make a long story short i pulled my pinky finger and the one beside it out of their sockets and the end of those 2 fingers are purple, half way though the day i pulled the pinky and i heard/felt a pop and it felt so much better, so i got the other one too, now im just sitting here typing with a couple swolen fingers and man do i feel like a dumbass so be careful guys, taking shortcuts doesnt pay off 99% of the time

Glad you didn't get your hand ripped off. My war story on the job site consist of slicing part of my wrist and almost opening my stomach up with a die grinder.

I have learned that whenever I am TRYING to be a carpenter I should go ahead and smash a finger with the hammer and get it over with! Cuz it happens every damm time! Glad to hear your injury wasn't much worse.

I'm glad to hear everything turned out ok. Lesson learned I'm sure. It'll make me think twice for sure. I have become a VERY paranoid person. Always thinking what could happen.

Man, that sounds bad. Glad you're ok. I got a 13-yr-old boy I keep telling you can have more fun if you're always careful, but I don't think he gets it yet. Hope it doesn't take something like what happened to you. Hope you heal up fast.

I would suggest going to the hospital and getting it bandaged up so that you can't use your hand to give it time to heal.
I was drilling through the foundation of my house with a big 1/2" drill. The bit stuck in the concrete and the drill kept going and took me with it. I ended up with my thumb pointing the wrong way. The doc at the emergency room yanked it back into place and I thought I was all good too go home, then the doc says ok we gotta put a cast on my hand. I thought he was joking, my thumb felt perfectly fine. So they put a cast on, I had it for a month or so and boy did my thumb hurt. After they took the cast off they made a plastic hand glove thing for me to wear for a few weeks more. The point to my story is that the hand needs time to heal, it might feel fine now but down the road a few years it might cause you trouble, I felt pains in my thumb area even a year after, especially in cold weather. |

Hands are a very delicate place to be injured. I cut the end of my finger off on a table saw about 10 years ago and required over 30 stitches to re-attach it. The funny thing was, I never had any feeling in the end of that finger for almost 4 years but I could feel pulses of pain inside the finger all the time. I got stitched up and went back to hammering again the next day but couldn't do it. The vibration was killing me. So I had to have the dressing changed daily and be off for 2 weeks, but it was Christmas time so it didn't matter. You must always be aware of the risks that surround your work space, even if you think you aren't at risk of bring injured.
I'm very glad to hear that all you got was a warning this time Derek, but please, be careful out there bud. The last thing we want to hear about is an unfortunate accident involving one of our extended family members here.
