A/C brackets for headers?

Some of you parts room guys have probably seen my ad on there. I'm looking for an AC cab to replace the one on my 71. QUESTION I got headers on my engine now and I was wondering if the stock brackets still work. I was doubting it I mean i don't know anything about AC but the dang alternator bracket wouldn't work so i'm sure i'll have to get some aftermarket mount for the AC stuff. Anybody with some knowledge on this subject if i could get some info it would be awesome

My 72 has factory AC and the alternator bracket worked fine with the headers. Most header companies sell the rear bracket that will work for headers. The factory bracket will not work on the rear of the compressor.

I think that you need to make a spacer out of some tubing to get the rear bracket correct... I THINK. Also may have to grind some on the bottom of the bracket to fit around the tube on the front pipe. Best way to be sure is check with hedman, they listed the mods needed to use stock brackets with their headers.

I am in the process of removing my factory A/C at the time - and I still have the bracketry on there - minus the compressor. I will try and get some pics for you WRM if you would like to see.

But I did exactly what Harold mentioned - made a spacer and did a little grinding. I am using the GM brackets and Dynomax Headers.

I'm interested in any pics you may have. Checked out what I could with the current pics at your site, nice and clean engine compartment! From these pictures, I can't see where you did the modification to the factory brackets. Any more detail about that?

I don't think any pics I have on there shows anything.
Those pics are from shortly after I "finished" the truck, so there has been some stuff change since then.

Seriously though - I just took off the compressor and A/C Saturday, so that means comp. oil, coolant, etc. everywhere, and I haven't had a chance to clean it up yet. And I have also been doing other projects with it - so all underhood hasn't been cleaned up in a while period.

Anyhow - here are your pics guys.
The notch on the top side of the bottom bracket was already there I believe when I did this. I also didn't have a die grinder when I did this, so the work you see there is done by a sawzall. It would have been nice to have a grinder so that I could have been more precise and clean with it - but you gotta do what you gotta do. So, it wasn't necessary to take all that I did off the bracket - but that's the best I could get with what I had at the time. Plus I was just holding it up marking it, so I got a little off. Doesn't really matter - the strength wasn't affected any to matter, and it serves the purpose flawlessly.
