Is this Rare?
Someone at work just bought a 69 3/4 ton lwb fleetside 4x4 with a 292 6cyl. and 4 speed. In his search for a couple of C20 emblems he was told that it was a very rare truck. Is this so?

I don't have production numbers here...but I wouldn't call them rare, esp if he was just refering to the C/20 part.

Sometime rare does not mean desirable, in the sense that it is more valuable than any other truck like it.

I've never heard of a 3/4 ton 4x4 with a straight six, it might be rare. We'll find out as soon as someone finds the production #'s for '69.

sounds like a plain jane work truck to me. not really rare. even if there weren't many of them made, i would like to see a seller convince the buyer to pay more for the "less desireable" engine.
if they are saying its rare because it has C/20 emblems, all 69&70 trucks (i think) had C/10 or C/20 as standard, even if the truck was 4wd. there were no K emblems ever made, save for K5 blazers (in typical GM fashion, even 2wd blazers had K5 emblems, to help confuse even more). 4wd was only denoted in the VIN, by the first character, C or K.

in 1969 chevrolet produced 6,124 3/4 ton fleetside 4x4s, 1,071 stepside 3/4 4x4s, 556 chassis-cab 3/4 4x4s, and 545 3/4 4x4 suburbans. as for specific breakdown of l-6 & v-8 3/4 ton 4x4s i can't help, but there were 30,991 l-6 equipped 3/4 tons and 93,178 v-8 equipped 3/4 tons. the literature i possess does not breakdown the specific models of l-6 and v-8 equipped 3/4 ton 4x4s. hope that helps. i agree that rare and desirable are two different animals that breakdown to individual opinion. i personally would consider this truck very desirable for my tastes, needs and expectations of what i want in a truck. as for rarity, i would say that a 69 3/4 ton 4x4 equipped with the indomitable 292 l-6 and bomb proof 4 speed manual transmission that these specific models were probably used in harsh enviroments where they could excel and probably very very few survived even though they were by far the most common 3/4 4x4 off the factory line. to find one today i would consider rare.

AMEN...rare has nothing to do with value...rare simply means uncommon....many set-ups are rare because nobody wanted them when they were new.....if you have something that is rare AND desirable..then you have something

A guy in my old neighborhood has a 1969 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 292. It has 40,000 original miles and is near perfect.
Here's the kicker. He said he ordered it with a 350 and had it swapped for the I6 at the local Chevy dealer because "the 350 is a dog". I wouldn't believe it if I didn't hear it myself. It has a very lightly used plow, AC, and power steering.

I guess I misued the word rare. It is just that we don't see many of these around with a 292 anymore. He bought this one for $500. After 2hrs of work it is now running after sitting for 15 yrs. Next are the brakes then some minor rust repair and then scraping of 15 yrs of moss off of it.
I will post some pictures of it when gets them developed. Thanks for the production numbers I know he will appreciate them.
