what size tires are you running? IMHO, since you're running overdrive you need more gear. 33s i would run 4.10s, and for 35s i would run 4.56s.

4x4 Questions

Call Ed at Mothertruckers in Bradenton, FL. He's really not into 4x4's but, he will give you some contacts. I have worked in DADE county (Miami) for years and have never found any good truck repair shops. You have to go to central Florida for this kinda stuff. Good luck and maybe will see you one day.

If I was doing what u are I would:

Find a newer set of axles (Maybe a Dana44 and a 12 bolt) with 4.10's or 4.56's with that overdrive. Depends on the size tires like Jeremy said.

What exactly are you planning on doing with this truck? I have a set of axles I am thinking of selling but they are a little more trail biased. Front is 10 bolt out of a 79 completly gone through with recent ball joints and TRE's, 4.10 gears and EZ locker.

Rear is a 12 bolt with Disc brake conversion (a must for mud). 4.10 gears and a Full case Detroit C locker.

If you were to go into a 4x4 shop and buy and have them install that set up on you axles you would be over $2,000 easy. I'm looking ot get $850 from the pair. They are still under the truck and infact I took the truck on a 60 mile drive yesterday. The Detroit is noticable on the street but AWSOME on the trail.

I also have a set of Warn alloy shafts and CTM Ujoints that would fit the front axle. That will make the axles shafts as strong as a stock D60 front. To buy that set up your looking at $950. I have them for sale for $650.

With a TH 350 the 4.10s are a good set up with 35-36's It will run down the road at 3k on the tach at 70mph on 35's. If you insisit on going to a weaker 700R4 then you need at least 4.56 is not 4.88 for 35-36 so the tranny will not granade.
