NEED HELP FAST!!! OIL-PRIMING only worked on one side.
So I just got my engine all together, yeah. Went to prime it before I put the intake mainfold on or put it in the truck. I have oil out of every pushrod on the driver's side, absolutely nothing on the passenger side, what's the problem?????? All help is much greatly appreciated.

That is rather strange!
What is your oil pressure running at when you are spinning the oil pump? Have you loosened the rockers up on the left side? The rear cam bushing is not in position or the left front oil galley plug has come out, (two possibilities). Good luck, Jim |

Are you using a distributor housing when priming? That is need to direct the oil to the upper engine area. (you would have to convert an old distributor into a priming tool)
If you are using a distributor, does it have a full groove going around it on the lower shaft? If not, turn it to another position and try again. I know some of the 348/409 Chevy distributors didn't have the full groove and if not installed correctly, no oil would get to the right side.

Bob is on the right track.
You must use a housing on your pre-oiler to effectlively prime both sides. The oil passage on the outside of the housing has to be in place for the oil to be channeled to the other side of the engine. If you use one of the screwdriver shaft kind of deal, without housing around it, only 1 side gets oiled that way. It's one of the seldom known facts of Chevy engines. I shake my head every time I see one of those cheap pre-oilers without the housing.

Thanks guys, I'll try that. But I don't have an old distributor. And I want to do this before I put the block in the truck. Should I just put my distributor in and hook 2 wires to a battery and crack it over without plug wires and stuff?

I other thing, this was after a couple of minutes. And I was turning the engine by hand while doing it. I used a piece of conduit with a big screwdriver hooked to a drill on the end to keep the screwdriver on the shaft.

It won't matter how long you spin it, without the housing, it won't reach the top of the engine.
You could either buy a primer tool that has a partial housing on it or perhaps rent or borrow one. Try Autozone, they loan tools out for free.
