Converting to short waterpump (long) Missing Anything?

I have been planning to convert from a ling waterpump to a short waterpump setup for a while. I figured that I would change out a few more things since I was doing the waterpump. I noticed last week that I have a small hole in my radiator and that I would swap that out and run new tranny cooler lines to my 400 turbo. The reason for this post is to go over what I need to do and make sure I dont miss anything. Also there will be pics of this mess I am going to make

drain radiator
remove upper and lower hoses
remove fan shroud
remove water pump hose
remove fan
remove alternator
remove power steering pump
remove water pump
remove any long waterpump pulleys and brackets

I am converting from long to short because I want to get this truck as close to original as I can. Also there is the fact that I have never tackled anything like this before.

my two cents.....

Remove the radiator after you unbolt the shroud....before unbolting the fan. Just in case you have to fight the fan off.....don't have to worry about violating the radiator! Also,I've had a tranny shop recommend abandoning the cooler in the radiator and just use an add on.

Skokie,

This is a little late, sorry.

I did this swap on my 70 with my 307. The main problems I ran into was brackets and pulleys.

As for Brackets... in most cases you will be switching from passenger side alternator with the long pump to driver side alternator with the short pump. Your existing brackets will not likely work. I was unable (and too impatient) to find stock brackets and went with an Alan Grove set-up for my alternator. I like it a lot.

Pulleys... as I found out I had an unusual situation (which was related to my 'press-on' balancer) Danged POS PO :p The more I think of it, this prolly wont effect you, but in my case, I had to replace my pulleys too... which took longer to figure out what to use than to get them.

Good luck with the swap and let us know how it goes.

Update
Short waterpump with pulleys are installed. I need to go back to the parts store and get the correct power steering belt. They were one part number off which resulted in a 1 inch shorter belt. New radiator is in and working fine but now I have a squeaking noise that sounds like it is coming from the pulleys or the belt but I cant be sure. Im gonna work on that tonight before I put the power steering belt on. Other than that I am happy with the swap. It took longer than planned but I am glad its done.
