Dashboard conversion
Hi!
I have an 89 Suburban, and I'm tired of looking at that massive four inch fuel gauge. I'd like to take a smaller fuel gauge and place it in the little spot in the four small gauge mounts that has a blank face (what was intended to go there anyway) and replace the large gas gauge with a factory GM tach. Have any of you guys tried this conversion or can direct me to where I can find a large factory tach that will fit??? Thanks a bunch, David |

i was wondering the same thing.....untill i saw a pic of a 89w/a 97 dash in it. now thats my next project if i can find a cheap 97 dash

Good luck on finding a working factory tach!. I have never seen one that worked. They are all way off.
The empty slot use to be used for a quartz clock if it didn't have factory tach. www.73-87.com has Swervin Irvins Dash redo with I believe it was Autometer gages. Looks awsome.

beermonkey--you talking about the guy on streetsource that did the conversion? I wonder how hard it would be to get the gauges to work properly

not sure if this helps, but I put a tranny temp gauge in the 4th "hole"

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going to save some cash and do the conversion with the aftermarket gauges behind the bezel. I think that looks wild.
