Can Anyone Identify Year Of This Truck?
I found this truck in a salvage yard near me. It's real clean, except for some parts stripped off it. It even has a clean gadge dash with all knobs and an original AM radio with correct knobs. Does anyone know from looking at the pics what year it is from? It is a long wheel base step side truck with almost perfect bed except the wood floor is gone.

Don,
According to the white trim around the door panels, it appears to be a 1966. Get me a price on the deluxe heater knobs, am radio, and gauge cluster!! Joshua |

Are there backup lights on the bed?

Joshua, I'm actually thinking about buying the whole truck and putting it on a 75 4X4 chassis. If I decide against that idea, I'll grab the cluster, AM radio and heater controls. I'll try to get the vin tag numbers to post to be sure about year (I know very little about these year trucks, but always liked the body style). Here's a pic of the passenger side bed step area. |

66 is the only year in that body style to have backup lights. I'm with the other guys, it is a 66.

That body will fit a 73-91 Suburban frame better than the truck frame. The 45 degree bend right under the cab on 73-87 trucks is hard to work with when fitting a 60-72 cab on. I used a 84 Suburban frame under my 65.
Good luck, Keith in TN

Keith, won't a suburban frame be too long?

the easiest way to tell what year you have is to check the driver's side door pillar..............the number before the letter 'Z' will be the year...........on the earlier trucks it's the first number on the plate located there.........hope this helps.............HEMMIT

The sure way is to look at vin number on the left door hinge post first number
will be the last number in what year it is. Another way is fender emblem, bow tie "outside" and above the series number(64), bow tie "inside" and next to the series number(65), and bow tie "inside" and above the series number (66).

Yep, it's a 66 for sure. I went back there on Friday to get a closer inspection since I was considering putting it on a 4X4 chasis, and came to the conclusion that it was too rotted for me to mess with. It does have many good qualities, but not enough to buy it.
I started to take out the dash. Well actually all I was able to remove was the philips headed screws from the bezel face and 2 of the left bezel knobs. It looks like I'll have to crawl under the dash to see what is all holding this together. |
