Post Locker

Anyone running a locker? I am getting ready to rebuild my 12 bolt and I'm thinking about going with a locker. I was wondering about how they act on the street. Thanks.

I'M RUNNING 3:08'S WITH AN EATON LOCKER. IT DOES BARK ON TURNS BUT, I LIKE THE BITE I GET WHEN I LEAVE OUT !!!!! THE TRUCK SEEMS TO RUN STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD NO DRIFTING TO THE SIDES.

Mine has a Detroit Locker in the rear Eaton axle. I'm very pleased with it's on highway manners. Every once in a while I get a big clunking noise and it does pull a little when initially accelerating on the highway, but other than that it is not really noticeable.

I don't get chirping when I turn slowly and I've heard they can be problems on ice and snow, but I have had no problems yet.

I have a detroit locker in my stock 3/4 ton Corp. axle (HO52?) with 3.90 gears. I simply love it.

It helps if you have a LWB. It clunks loudly when I'm pulling away from curbs after the truck has sat for a while, and there's noticeable play in the driveline (clunk on accel/decel), but I love the stability while I'm driving around.

Around corners I don't really hear anything, but I do feel some slippage on the inside wheel just as I'm straightening out (when the inside wheel locks back into place), so don't expect to do any "Starski & Hutch" moves around corners and have it look cool for the cameras! hehe

We had a random snow in early March in Seattle. I was coming back from the tire store, and I live on a hill so I was cruising down it toward my house. I did loose some traction, and it was difficult to feather the accelerator to keep the tires from spinning, but a little planning, and some cool nerves kept me from banging into anyone. Funny there were 4 fender-benders right in front of my house. All were SUV's! lol

Thanks for the replies. I was worried about pulling a trailer with one. But it sounds like all the magazine warnings about curves and turning shouldn't be a problem.

I have a Powertrax Lock-rite in my 12 bolt 3.08 rearend. I am running a Saginaw 4 speed with 380 horse/450 ft/lb torque. When I am going hard through the gears, but have not broken traction, it will lurch to one side or another. It does this because unless the locker "thinks" it needs to send power to both wheels, it will only send it to one side. But if I burnout at all, it will not sway. The little bit of "clunking" noise going around sharp corners at slow speeds is pretty much muted by my exhaust. I like this unit because it was $300.00, easy to install, and didn't have to tough ring & pinion settings. I will say, that for a daily driver, probably a true posi unit would be a better choice. My truck is strictly for pleasure, with occasional trips to Epping Raceway for timeslips. Hope this helps.

I put a locker in my Corp-14 and I had to take it because it was unsafe to drive. I live in Central Oregon and we get a lot of snow and ice. I was in every ditch in town. If you don't have snow, it would probably be great. Personally I would like an ARB air locker, or the new Eaton electric locker that is better that the ARB because you don't need air. Both are better than a Detroit because you can turn them off.
